“Great hospitality in the centre of Franschhoek”
Reviewed February 6, 2013 via mobile

This was our second visit to Franschhoek but our first stay at Plumwood Inn. What a great choice. Just a couple of minutes walk from Franschhoek's many fine dining establishments and shops. Great breakfasts, friendly and informed advice from our hosts and comfortable rooms. Highly recommended.

Franschhoek is a beautiful place to visit and the Plumwood Inn is a beautiful and relaxing place to stay. Located a short walk from the main street ,making it perfect for those restaurants that you have come to dine in.We stayed three nights - our room was immaculately clean and well furnished, the air con worked perfectly and the wi-fi connection was very good - the bathroom was a work of art. The grounds are a delight and incorporate two pools/ sun loungers etc The breakfast ( cold buffet and/or hot selections made to order) is fantastic, which you take overlooking the garden/pool with the mountains in the background -heaven.Home made jams and a different type of muffin, home baked that morning are the icing on the cake.If the " Great bake off " ever reaches SA -then Lucienne has to enter.Excellent facilities, but what makes the Plumwood Inn special is the service from the staff and the owners. Raul and Lucienne, originally from the Netherlands, have over the years built up the Plumwood Inn and they should be proud of what they have achieved. Everything has been thoroughly thought out to make your stay as perfect as they can make it. A Dutch masterpiece in Franschhoek and highly recommended. We will be back!

The Plumwood Inn close to the centre of Franschoek surpassed our expectations. We stayed recently for 5 nights and would highly recommend it as a relaxing place to stay while also enjoying the area. Its very secure and in a perfect location - a short stroll to the centre yet in a quiet residential street. Lucienne and Ruul work extremely hard to cater for their guests needs, offer a thoroughly friendly and professional service and are very happy to recommend local restaurants and sights. They will also make the reservations for you. (See separate restaurant reviews). We enjoyed an excellent day visiting the wineries with their recommended tour guide who was extremely knowledgeable and was open to our criteria. Our room, no.6, overlooking the pool and garden was tastefully decorated with a very well appointed en suite bathroom, full range of toiletries etc. and was thoroughly cleaned each day - thank you Gladys & Co! Breakfasts were terrific - in fact I would say their eggs far surpassed those served at the 5 star Table Bay hotel in Capetown! - and so relaxing overlooking the garden and pool! We particularly liked 'the honour bar' system - so nice to be able to relax on your terrace after dinner with a coffee, glass of wine, etc. Another bonus is that they organise an in house laundry service which sees your clothes washed and ironed within a few hours for a small charge. All in all this is excellent value for money and in my opinion not at all expensive in comparison to other guest houses we stayed in. Well done Lucienne and Ruul and staff! We will certainly return!

Room Tip: We loved room no.6 overlooking the pool and with very easy access to parking. But being in close pro...

The Plumwood Inn , in the heart of Franschhoek , is an excellent base from which to see the Valley . We had 4 excellent nights here . The breakfast is excellent , taken beside one of the two pools . Stayed in comfortable room 8 - great view of mountains and sunsets . Great bathroom, very modern , great toiletries . Secure parking . Use of nice lounge area , a great selection of books to borrow from . Very friendly owners, Roel and Lucienne . Great staff . Look out for Rosina and Deonesha .

Room Tip: Book a pool view room if you can

The hosts and owners at Plumwood are delightful, helpful, attentive and accommodating. We had a 3 night stay and were not disappointed.

Breakfast is a wide reaching spread which will cater for most.

The rooms are very spacious and kept clean by a diligent and polite team. Rooms as per pictures are modern in style and compare to 4 star hotels that I stay in often around the world.

Off street gated parking is a welcome addition as are well stocked and correctly priced minibars / honesty bar in the communal areas which were a nice touch.

Overall a great stay and made all the more relaxing by our hosts who are extremely knowledgeable and show genuine interest in your exploits and making the most of your stay.

This our second trip back to S.A and we stayed at Plumwood for a second time and it did not disappoint. We stayed 5 nights. Lovely, friendly and helpful owners, wonderful breakfast, great location and great pool. Would recommend to anyone. We do prefer the luxury rooms in the new building on the first floor with a view, but have been happy also in the other rooms.

Room Tip: Room 4 and 5 - luxury rooms on first floor with a gorgeous view
