“Wonderful Small Luxury Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 23, 2013

My family & I recently had a brilliant trip here staying in 3 of their superior double rooms, for 2 nights. On arrival we were welcomed with a glass of wine in the beautifully decorated lounge area before being shown to our rooms where petals had been scattered around the room for our arrival. The rooms are spacious, with lovely decor, large bathrooms and a nice patio area. The attention to detail is amazing with complimentary mini bar, complimentary hotel bar and one afternoon we requested to have a cup of tea and were treated to an unexpected slice of homemade pie as well. On the topic of desserts, we arrived back from dinner to find delicious desserts on our beds each evening which was a lovely surprise and not something we have had with a turn down service before. The breakfast was also excellent with a large continental selection and a choice of cooked, we loved the eggs benedict!

The managers Franklin and Conrad were exceptional. From making sure we had a dinner reservation on our first night as we were a party of 6 to all their help with planning our days and wine tasting route. All of the staff were so friendly and couldn't have been more helpful.

We would definitely recommend The Last Word Franschhoek and hope to return in the future.

My wife and I only stayed one night at the Last Word, but wish we had stayed longer. The room was very nice and the staff was great. They went the extra mile to make our anniversary special. They also put together breakfast baskets as they knew we were departing prior to breakfast time. The location is perfect as you can walk to all the shops and restuarants in Franshhoek.

We stayed for only one night but thought the room was quite wonderful. It was huge with its own terrace and massive bathroom area. All the staff were extremely welcoming and Conrad the manager was very helpful and informative about where to visit and where to eat.It is located right in the centre of the town which was really convenient. Everything about the place was excellent.

Room Tip: Ask for one furthest from the road.

This small and elegant 5 star hotel has to be one of the best hotel experiences I have ever had.
All of the staff were genuinely helpful and Conrad the manager was concerned that our stay in Franschhoek was a happy stay and was very attentive. Hotel is an old style Cape House maybe 150 years old and is beautifully decorated. All drinks in the bar are complimentary and the breakfast is superb. I particularly recommend the eggs benedictine or the exotic mushrooms on toast. Huge bedroom with private terrace was a welcome retreat at the end of the day. Look forward to returning one day. The Manager on Conrad's day off(think his name is Franklin) should also be commended for his service and on our departure came with his staff to wave good by. A nice thought.

Room Tip: Room one I think opens onto swimming pool with exclusive terrace but I guess will be more expensive

We whole heartily recommend this very professional luxury hotel for its friendly attentive staff lead by Conrad who will make you most welcome and will offer excellent local advice
It's ideally situated in the centre of town but just sits back enough to feel quiet and peacefull but perfect for catching the wine tour which is a must .
A real oasis of luxury and charm

Room Tip: All stylish and luxurious

We stayed for 3 nights using this as a base to visit the Franschhoek and Stellenbosch areas...so much to see and do, so little time. As with The Last Word in Constantia the welcome was very warm and the manager was very helpful suggesting places to visit and eat. The hotel is one of the earliest buildings in Franschhoek and has lots of character with very suitable decor. Our room was large and had underfloor heating. There was a free bar and a nice lounge area and seats around the pool. The view from there was of the surrounding hills. Breakfast offered plenty of choice and the staff were very friendly. The hotel is in the centre of the town so we walked to a different restaurant each evening and felt very safe. No restaurant but there are so many in walking distance that it doesn't matter. We strongly recommend the hotel for a relaxed, informal stay in this area.

Room Tip: Rooms are all very similar

We could not fault this hotel it was fantastic! We had a warm welcome and a restaurant was booked for us that evening. I took so many pictures of all areas of this hotel as the decor was beautiful. There is such attention to detail.
Turndown service was very good, not just a chocolate left but a lovely little mousse or creme brûlée. The staff were excellent and would bring a nice tray of tea etc to your room after a day out if requested.
Breakfasts were delicious and there was a special on the menu every day. Franklin was the manager in attendance there for most of our stay. He was very friendly and helpful. He told us lots of information and history about the hotel and area.
Our room was absolutely divine with a few little surprises laid on for our last night.
Whilst staying we went on the wine tram and toured the wineries plus museum, great fun although I couldn't drink all the wines.
We will definitely find an excuse to come back here one day. The final touch was all the staff, from the kitchen as well all came out to say goodbye to us on our departure.
Loved it, this hotel should be very proud of it's achievements.

Room Tip: There are only 6 rooms, ours was excellent and had a pretty little courtyard garden. There is one ro...
