We had this place recommended to us by a friend and we made a beeline for it on arrival in Franschhoek. It was absolutely first class. We stayed for 2 nights at a cost of £85pppn. This included a Private Villa with its own private swimming pool, luxurious bathroom and underfloor heating and an unrivalled view down onto the town of Franschoek itself. It included breakfast both days, which was delicious including buffet continental style and a number of hot choices. A complimentary lunch including wine, which was delicious and a guided tour of the vineyards and the cellars by the proprietor john which also included a bottle of wine to sample at our leisure afterwards. I would wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone, the accommodation, food and service was the best I have known. The only slight fault was that the Wifi was nt working properly.

Room Tip: on arrival ask what deals are on offer, especially in the lo season.

We were lucky enough to stay for 3 nights as their breakfast is as good as their legendary lunches. Go for a tour with John, the father of the clan, for an informative, charming tour of the vineyard and cellars. Eat everything you can and take home some wines. One of the few vineyards that actually produces only what they grow.

Room Tip: We loved the Vineyard suites close to the restauant - the view down the vineyards towards the mounta...

The room we stayed in was elegantly furnished and located in the Manor House. There was a beautiful area outside for relaxing with a glass of wine and access to the pool with incredible views over the vineyard. Without a doubt I would stay here again if I return, highly recommended.

We really can't understand any of the negative reviews that this place has had - we saw nothing to suggest poor customer care or dirty/run down rooms. We had the most fantastic stay here and can't fault anything about it. The food is out of this world, the wine exceptional (we bought some in the UK via www.sawinesonline.co.uk and frequently reminisce about our amazing stay when we drink it!). We loved the fact that there wasn't a 24 hour reception and you were left amongst the vines to get on with it by yourselves and don't see this as a negative at all. We loved eating out at the fantastic restaurants in the area, had a fun winetasting on horseback and soaking in the bath with a glass of wine overlooking the vines was total bliss! All in all, we would wholeheartedly recommend this very special place.

I'm hesitant to write this review as I don't want everyone else to discover the magic of La Petit Ferme! At the moment it remains a sanctuary in a Franschoek full of pretentious accommodation. Its beautiful, simple, relatively inexpensive and the people are friendly and professional. Views for ever. Privacy. Delicious breakfasts.... Lovely. We'll be back.

We spent one night in one of the deluxe vineyard suites based upon the views and description on the hotel website. What a disappointment this was. While the setting and views are fantastic, condition and cleanliness of the unit is appalling given the star rating and room rate.

On the positive side, the bedding was clean, the breakfast well prepared and the staff friendly. The setting is lovely.

The room leaves a lot to be desired though.

The ensuite bathroom had many cracked tiles on the floor, the grouting in the shower was cracked, mouldy and discoloured. The shower door did not close. There were hairs on the shower and the basins were chipped and worn. The second bathroom did not have hand soap or shower gel. The main bathroom had no conditioner or bubble bath.

The lounge has an old television, and a worn out couch that would not be out of place in cheap motel. The cushions were worn flat and the sofa soiled and uncomfortable.

There is a basic mini bar with some bottled water and some wine (only white, as they were out of stock of the red), some cheap sachets of instant coffee and tea, and long life milk.

The table has some basic tourist information. (A worn red folder with some photos, a printed sheet with some information on the hotel - complete with coffee or tea stains from a previous visitor, and some magazines).

The bedroom has the carved four-poster bed described on the website, but the paint is chipping off, it has dirty marks on the frame and the rich cotton accents were discoloured and hadnt been cleaned in quite a while.

The loungers on the deck outside were flimsy and poorly made.

Throughout the unit the skirtings were dirty with caked grime where they jojn the wall, the cornices in the bathroom were separating from the wall. Overall the impression is that the unit has been fitted out as cheaply as possible and has not been maintained. Besides the changing of the sheets and vacuuming of the carpet, it has also appears not to have been cleaned properly in while.

All in all not what I would expect from a 4 star suite, and an expensive one at that. When we complained, the person on the desk said that he would let housekeeping know, and that he only worked in the restaurant. When checking previous reviews, I saw that I was not the only person to have found the units were rundown. If only I had checked before...

Dont waste your money on this place.

Room Tip: Dont choose the deluxe suites

It's a beautiful place on the way to Franschoek pass, restaurant and rooms are overlooking the Valley. People with more expertise should praise wine, I'll praise the rooms. We stayed in the new house and had the Verandah Suite - terrific!

The Room was big and nice, bathroom too. But the outstanding thing was the Veranda with a huge fireplace outdoor. We spent the whole night there and definitely recommend the place.
