We stayed at Le Franschhoek for our first wedding anniversary, and it did not disappoint. The room was beautiful, with a huge balcony overlooking the mountains and the gardens. The staff could not do enough to help, and the little touches like the turn down and the robes made it feel very special. The food in the orchard restaurant was delightful, and the individual greenhouses are a lovely setting for a romantic meal. All in all a lovely hotel, in a stunning location and far better service than you would get at an equivalent hotel in the UK.

we stayed at le Franschhoek as the 2nd hotel of our 18 night trip to South Africa. It is situated high in the Franschhoek valley and is an incredibly beautiful hotel, our room was divine with a 4 poster bed, thatch roof and stunning view. The staff were all very friendly giving us directions for our evening meals - including one to Rust en Vrede (reviewed separately - the best!!) and the breakfasts unbelievable - probably the best poached eggs on salmon/ smoked haddock ever, but also teh range of continental breakfast lovely. Little touches of bed turn downs and weather reports were an added comfort as were the slippers and robes. I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone staying in Franshhoek - it was a great base to explore the region.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights in mid-September. The hotel is truly gorgeous. The grounds are well maintained and the public spaces modern but comfortable. We did not eat dinner here, but did grab a late lunch upon arrival. The lunch was served outside in little private greenhouses which we enjoyed. I had tomato soup and their cheese platter which were both lovely, though not necessarily difficult to make. We were having dinner that night at The Tasting Room and didn't want much more than a snack. We found the service quite good seeing as they were constantly running considerable distances to serve people.

Our room was on the top floor of the hotel and had the thatched roofing right over it. It was beautiful to look at, though it provides no sound proofing. We heard guests talking outside, and the birds hanging out above us. It wasn't a big deal as it never kept us up at night, but it you're a very light sleeper I'd recommend looking for a room on the 2nd floor.

The room itself was comfortable and well appointed with soft linens and gorgeous views of the mountains. The bathroom had a tub set beneath a window which we could leave open due to nice weather. The location is a bit out of town if you're planning to walk from place to place, however we had rented a car so the 3 minute drive never bothered us.

Spent 2 nights in early spring at this lovely hotel. The weather was wet and a bit cold but the warm welcome we received made up for that. A large log fire was burning in the Reception area and our first sight of the Lounge all decorated in white was stunning. Our bedroom was large and well equiped with all the items you need when away from home. Plenty of cupboard space and an adequate size bathroom. Glass doors opened onto our own private balcony. Had it not been raining the view of the Mountains and the beautiful countryside would have just finished off a most comfortable stay at this lovely thatched roofed hotel. The dinner was excellent as well. The hotel is a few kilometes outside the little town so a car would be necessary.

This hotel was recommended to us and we were not sorry we chose it. The location and style of the hotel is superb, beautiful mountain backdrop, a little way from the town, thatched roof, lovely bars and pool etc etc.

The room was excellent - an oversized room with muted grey coloured decor - all very tasteful with four poster bed, nice shower and bath.

We had a few hours of spa treatments each in the afternoon and these were really special - they created a very calm ambience at the spa, the therapist was friendly but not intrusively talkative and the treatments were paced just right. Three hours flew by.

The concierge made a few good dinner recommendations including a couple of out of town options on vineyards which were a short cab ride away.

So those were the positives. The negatives are not big, and have already been mentioned by others and boil down to the chaos that is breakfast at this place.

It all looks very classy, with lovely food and omlette stations etc. We ordered coffee which didn't come, then we collected food but had no cutlery etc etc. When we finally attracted the attention of the waiting staff the response was at best surly, and they didn't bring what we asked for. In the end I went to pour myself coffee and was stopped by a manager. I explained what had happened and there were of course lots of apologies but it was the same both days. The restaurant was not full (the hotel was quite empty) so there's really no excuse. All that being said, it was a lovely place to stay.

Lovely hotel full of grace and luxury. A transformation from the old Swiss Farm Excelsior of old. Super pool area, great lounge and spectacular mountain backdrop. Room 25 under the thatch and over-sized was spotless. Not sure why there are bad reviews as I only found this to be pleasurable and would recommend it without reservation. Only had breakfast which was befitting the surroundings! You do need a car to get to the town...only a 5 minute drive though.

We stayed in the villas at Le franschhoek during a conference.
The villa looked shabby: chipped tables, stained carpets, loose fittings, broken door handle. The housekeeping was erratic: wet towels were folded and hung back on the rack, others were removed and not replaced, soap was removed and not replaced, sheets were not changed during our 4 night stay, carpets and floors were not cleaned.
Breakfast was a farce. It was impossible to find 6 places to eat at together that had not already been used. There were no saucers or teaspoons, we had to search for waiters to take our orders for tea and toast, and the hot food was inedible. Not 5 star!
