Our 4 nights were wonderful. You are greeted by Declan who explains in detail all info you need. The rooms are spacious with very comfortable and large beds- emperor size. You are provided a local phone to make calls to restaurants and other Franschhoek numbers. Breakfast was fabulous served by Stacy & Meena. The entire staff was attentive in particular Declan who helped us with restaurant reservations. Our room had a private wood fired outside hot tub and a small pool. Laundry service was an unexpected but welcomed surprise. My only complaint is the wifi which was slow. However this does not take away from the many pluses this hotel offers. I highly recommend it!!

Home away from home is Akademie's motto and they certainly live up to it...
The attention to detail in every aspect of their hotel, from common areas to the intimacy of your room, is exceptional.
The staff, headed up by Declan, Meena & Stacey, are 100% committed to providing you with a stay that is truly second to none. They went out of their way to ensure our every need was met in a genuine, unpretentious manner.
Akademie stands head and shoulders above other boutique hotels we have had the privilege of visiting. They have truly mastered the art of making you feel like one of the family. We would give you a 6 star rating if we could..
Well done Paul, Declan, Meena, Stacey and all the staff at Akademie.

Paul and Declan the two persons in charge of this property are people who really care about the type of premises they run. I hope other hoteliers read these reviews and decide to visit Akademie Street Boutique Hotel and see how a guest should be treated. You want laundry done? Put it in the laundry basket and it's done at no extra cost and without filling in forms; you want your breakfast in the morning? Take your seat in the dining room and Declan will take your order and take the time of day to explain the time of day. You wish to have an aperitif or digestif before or after dinner in Franschoek?Take your seat in the drawing room, relax and help yourself to first class cocktails, wines, spirits or soft drinks if you prefer. Declan and Paul will happily join you for excellent conversation and friendly advice about the locale they have created a home in. Or you can spend this time browsing the excellent books or enjoying the excellent art they have collected. And yet do not think this is place that is stuffy; it isn't - Declan and Paul have no time for pretentiousness, they and their staff are working too hard to make sure your stay is as relaxing and fulfilling as possible, in a manner that suits you the guest.

So Messrs Sofitel,Hilton,Sheraton...the list is endless, you big name and not so big name hoteliers, do yourself a favour, book into this 'inn' and see how a guest should be treated.

Akademie street Boutique Hotel is a true boutique hotel. Every part of it was beautifully styled. We had a warm welcome from the kind and passionate Scottish manager Declan. He showed us around, made sure we got our restaurant reservations for both evenings, and told us everything we needed to know about the lovely Franschhoek.

At this hotel, the philosophy seems te be to give guests everything they could wish for, and more. The best whiskeys and brandys are complementary on a table near the lovely fireplace, you just have to sit down and enjoy the atmosphere. Our room was stunning, with a beautiful bathroom, big comfortable bed and a patio where a delicious and fresh breakfast was served. We felt totally spoiled.

When traveling in warmer days, a nice pool is added to al this and you will not need to or want to go anywhere else. I would recommend at least three days in this lovely hotel and beautiful area.

Room Tip: All the rooms have been refurnished recently. From what we could tell, they are all wonderful.

We stayed at this beautiful hotel for 3 nights as part of our honeymoon, and were so sad to leave. We have stayed in many impressive hotels over the years but were blown away by both the quality and the incredible hospitality here. Declan's warmth and generosity knows no bounds. He could not do enough to ensure our stay was perfect. The suites are large and every detail has been thought out (huge beds, underfloor heating, log fires, electric blankets and fully stocked complimentary minibar to name but a few). The lounge and outdoor areas are beautifully decorated and so inviting, helped by the log fires and selection of local wines on offer. Aside from all of this, the most outstanding aspect of this hotel was Declan and his team. He is a true gentleman and his warm manner and brilliant banter hugely contribute to the overall charm of this hotel. Stacey is also very impressive and the staff are clearly so dedicated to their various roles, which all contribute to making the place such a pleasure to stay in. In our view, this personal touch from Declan and his team makes Akademie Street Boutique so special and serves as a perfect example of why we will always favour this boutique over any chains or more corporate guest houses/hotels on our return to Franschoek. It really is a home away from home and we can't wait to go back!
