We had a wonderful stay at Akademie. The family could not have done more, from the comfort of the room, giving all the information we needed, even no extras! We could not suggest any improvements and look forward to spending more time there on our next trip.

We were over the top when we see this beautiful cottage, no photo can do them justice, you gotta be here to see it for yourself. Love it the moment we step in. Hazel the manager, Catherine the host cannot be anymore friendly and helpful. Breakfast is beautifully set in the courtyard with the pool!
I am so glad I managed to book the only1 nite available, even though I had to reshuffle my whole itinerary, it's total worth it! Now I can only wish I got more nights here...

My wife and I spent a week at Oortuiging in January 2013 and enjoyed our visit so much that we repeated the experience this year. Our visit in 2014 was just as enjoyable and it is difficult to see how it would be possible to improve on the wonderful experience of staying at this property. The key is the great attention to detail and a genuinely hospitable approach by Arthur, Katharine, Jessie and all their staff. If the opportunity arises for you to visit Franschoek and stay at Akademie Street, just take it!

We stayed here for 2 nights in Uitsig, a large bedroom with kitchenette and bathroom over the garage. On arrival, we were met by Hazel, who gave us a run down on Akademie Street and Franschoek. Breakfast is served in the courtyard at individual tables, with plenty of fresh fruit, yogourt and muesli, followed by a cooked breakfast. Katherine is always there and is a real delight to talk to. She really could not do enough to us, to making sure that there was bread that my husband, who is allergic to sesame, could eat. She and Arthur are full of local knowledge and just want to make you feel at home. The thoughtfulness extends to towels and sun lotion provided next to the pool and a mobile phone in the room with their number in. Staying here spoilt us for any further accommodation as we were always comparing it to here! We would have stayed longer if we could have.

My wife and I stayed in the Vreugde House at Akademie St last October. It was basically a charming, small cottage with a private plunge pool and garden often visited by Anna, the friendly and sweet Akademie St dog. On the first morning there, our hot water wasn't working. We told Katharine and Arthur, and they were extremely apologetic. By the time we got back from our day of wine tasting, the hot water had been fixed and they offered to pay for our dinner to make up for the issue. That says everything about the kind of people they are and the place this is. Thank you both for such a great stay.

Our 3 night stay was pure bliss. Every member of the Akademie team contributed to the polite, personal, genuinely hospitable atmosphere .
The location is excellent being just a few minutes walk from the wide variety of excellent restaurants in the town.
Our room, Twyfeling A, was exceptionally comfortable together with a large, light and secluded conservatory for our bath/shower room which led to our private patio. We had the pool and garden to ourselves! Every conceivable extra is provided free of charge - from efficient Wi-Fi, satellite TV and local mobile phone to daily restocked mini-bar, fruit, chocolate, biscuits and laundry.
Breakfast was taken outside in the garden with a wide choice of continental or cooked food, all of the highest quality and served with a smile.
As others have observed, it was a pity we had to leave.

We arrived in Franschhoek after a grueling drive in heavy rain through the mountain pass from Hermanus en route to Cape Town.

We were stopping over for a few days to break our journey and be able to explore the wine district.

On arrival we had the warmest and most friendly greeting ever experienced. First impressions always count and this was a Wow. We had help with our bags.

Where does one start we had rooms in the main house which was a beautiful Dutch colonial style property. The rooms were enormous and each had its own private exit as the owners informed us that guest privacy is of paramount importance.

Another surprise was the high quality goodies left out for us and the fact that the in room drinks fridge and all snacks were complimentary.

We had been traveling for some weeks and another unexpected surprise was that they asked if we had any laundry and that to was dealt with on a complimentary basis.

then as if that was not enough we were each provided with a mobile phone so we could phone each other in our rooms, the staff if we needed anything and they had also very thoughtfully programmed in telephone numbers for the main restaurants etc making life very easy.

In fact I actually used up the phone credit and they topped this up free of charge.

The rooms were very luxurious as were the en suite facilities with top notch toiletries to match.

Then we have the breakfast, well each guest has their own private dining area so you do not mix with other gusts again ensuring privacy and the food was superb.

The owners and staff were all 100%+ for attention and service.

On one evening we arrived late and the night watchman was also extremely friendly and a font of local knowledge.

We were given lots of help and recommendations to make our visit more than memorable.

The shops and eateries in the main street have everything you could want from leather to boutique items.

We would give at least 7 stars if it was possible.

Whilst this guest house in in a road behind the main street this actually adds to its attraction as it is free from noise.

The grounds and backdrop are also superb.

One final point do not be put of by the appearance when pulling up outside as this is one of those amazing gems one finds when traveling and should not be missed.

Room Tip: Try to get rooms in the main house but if not any of the three cottages hidden away in the lush gard...
