Hazel met us on arrival and really made us feel welcome. She introduced us to our accommodation and it blew us away.

We stayed in the Gleatenheid, which is wonderfully laid out and to describe it as spacious would be an understatement. It is at the end of the beautiful gardens and, whilst only 15 seconds from the main buildings, is very private. We had our own pool - I took my time getting in as it was chilly - and sunbeds. The upstairs and downstairs verandas provided comfortable seating and perfect venues for a pre-dinner aperitif from the in-room complementary bar. The upstairs veranda also features an outside bath (there is another one inside of course for the less adventurous), which is set back and so screened from sight. The Gleatenhead is tastefully decorated and features a large number of original oil paintings, lots of sofas, a kitchen area, great roof beams upstairs and a huge bed.

We used the inclusive laundry service, which was excellent, and enjoyed the breakfasts in the choice of inside or outside venues. The food and service exceeded our high expectations.

Akademie street is a short, and safe, walk to the quirky town centre as well as the best Franschhoek restaurants for the evening. When out and about keep an eye open for the fountain that Arthur donated to the town. The wine train is well worth the experience, as is going to one of the vineyards to eat as an alternative to the town centre one evening (the vineyards generally provide return door-to-door transport if you book in advance). On that point, do not leave booking restaurants until you arrive in Franschoek as the best ones fill up well in advance (over a month in some cases), although Hazel will do all that she can to help you.

The service here was superb and well up to the 5* tag. Hazel is a real asset to the business, but I think that Arthur knows that, and Anna the dog is just great. What a place...

On arrival at Akademie Street the rain was pouring down but within minutes we were entering our own little mini paradise - Gelatenheid! A beautiful secluded house on two floors full off lovely personal touches selected by Arthur and Katherine! Lovely sofas, unusual lights and even two individual claw leg baths one inside and one on the balcony to soak away the hours in ( if you have time)! Overlooking intimate gardens full of flowering bushes and fountains with a swimming pool for our own personal use. Everything had been supplied even down to the suntan lotion tucked into the basket with the swimming towels. Breakfasts were taken in the main house and what a treat, stunning fruit plates, homemade museli, yogurts and almost anything cooked you required! Top that with fabulous teapots made especially for them by a well know local potter that you want to take away with you! Even the weather turned lovely for our stay and we'll definitely be returning another time

Room Tip: All rooms appear to be lovely here so take your choice but book early as they are always busy!

We stayed at this delightful place in accommodation called Gelatenheid for 3 nights. Everything about the place was as near perfection as I could imagine with highlights including:
1. The warm welcome from Hazel who was utterly charming and a treasure trove of information about the area.
2. The stunning, spacious and artistic house with its own small pool which became our home from home.
3. The picturesque gardens with their fountains, flowers and various nooks and crannies
3. The fabulous breakfasts in the main house or courtyard which set up each day.
4. Meeting the highly personal owners, Arthur and Catherine, who have achieved in their own unassuming way, the perfect escape location.
We will return to the Winelands and Franschoek, and book our stay around this once in a lifetime experience.

We stayed here in Uitsig for three nights in the middle of our trip to South Africa. From the warm welcome from Jess to the end of our stay it was perfect. Our room was beautiful, so much space and views to die for. Breakfasts were delicious; we loved the fruit platter. It seemed to echo the artistic approach throughout the guesthouse. Cafe d'Art for dinner was excellent. The trip to La Motte wonderful and we just enjoyed meandering through the lovely town.
A very special hotel and we would love to return.
