“Amazing!”
Reviewed April 28, 2013

We stayed at Akadmie Street on the recommendation of the travel company who organised our recent holiday in South Africa. Although we only had a two night stay there, everything was perfect, from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. Centrally located in a quiet street and few minutes walk to the main street where there are a plethora of shops and eateries. The staff were warm and welcoming and Anna the house dog also greeted us warmly! Our cottage, we were told, was the smallest accomodation they had to offer! To us it was palatial! Our own private grounds, small pool, sunbeds, veranda, easy chairs, settee..the list goes on and on. Our room was large and airy and had the biggest bed I've ever seen.....a well stocked fridge, all without charge, and a well equiped kitchen area should we have wanted to boil an egg! Our laundry was all done swiftly, and again, with no charge. Breakfasts were excellent and all delivered personally to our table, no buffet style breakfast here! The fresh fruit platters and smoothies were amazing. At the end of our stay we we were asked to fill in a form that requested ideas for how Akademie could be improved. We left it blank as in our opinion it is just perfect. We only have one small complaint......we didnt stay long enough! A truly special place and perfect in every way.

Room Tip: Our room was a small cottage with its own private entrance from the road with off road parking avail...

We spent our last 3 days in South Africa and our time at the Akademie Street Hotel was the highlight. We were a family of 4 and they could not have been more accommodating or helpful during our stay. The house is charming and you could not have wanted for anything while there. Breakfast in the courtyard was so wonderful, fresh and a great way to start the day. Franschhoek itself is a quaint town and well situated. Without question, I would recommend and will plan to return for future visits.

This is an absolutely lovely guest house with comfortable and unique rooms and beautiful grounds. Hazel was extremely warm and welcoming, along with all the rest of the staff. I loved relaxing by the pool with the house dog, Anna. Breakfast is simply wonderful. My husband claims they made the best eggs he's ever had in his life! You absolutely can't go wrong if you stay here - very special place!

When visiting Franschhoek we always stay at Akademie Street. Everything is really perfect! After a warm welcome one can relax in the personal athmosphere of the lovely cottage. Breakfast is wonderful with the fresh fruit platters and the tasty home-made muesli. Everyone (including Anna the dog) at Akademie Street is giving their best to make your stay memorable. That makes it very special! We are looking forward to our next visit at Akademie Street!

Lovely family run place, Arthur and Hazel were such great hosts, the house oozes character
and the cottages had lovely touches - it was great to find an espresso machine and my favourite - "Illy coffee" in the room. The gardens to our cottage - "Vreudge" were so relaxing with ornamental pond and water feature as well as a plunge pool. It was lovely to have a leather sofa on the verandah as well as the usual loungers in the garden. Our only regret is that we couldnt stay for longer.

Our second stay was as good as the first one: Very personal, warmhaerted place with an unbeatable, high-level service: Laundry was done within the same day, breakfast was excellent and individual, the tips and reservation for eating and visiting wineries were excellent. We fealt very welcome and found the time to relax. When we are planning our next trip, we know already one thing for sure: 3 days at Aka are a must!

Room Tip: All rooms are individuell and nice - I love the both cottages.
