We spent two nights at Mont Rochelle at the end of a three week holiday in South Africa.

The views, location, standard of service and food were beyond our expentations having read varied reviews prior to our visit.

We will certainly return to Franschhoek and especially to Mont Rochelle.

The hotel is set in beautiful grounds and you cannot fault the scenary. The veiws of the mountains and the peace and tranquillity of this place is excellent. Our room was large and tastefully decorated .Whilst we were there Mont Rochelle had run out of its own chardonnay so we were offered award winning wines from a neighbouring small vineyard , Glenwood. No complains here and we visited the estate and ordered a case to be sent home!!!.Breakfast was the best I have ever tasted. We ate in the resturant at night and although not the best I have been to it was still good. The piano player was very good and the atmostphere is relaxing. The hotel makes up great picnic baskets. The staff were freindly and the service was excellent. We also visited the Graham Beck Estate which is in a nice setting. However you can by this wine in every large supermarket so I would try and sample the smaller more exclusive estates. I would certainly stay here again!!!!

I too was a little apprehensive after seeing mixed reviews, but our rather picky party of four was enchanted by the place. We drove straight there from Cape Town airport after a 12-hour flight, and immediately felt at ease with the spectacular location, charming architecture and friendly and professional welcome.

Our rooms were spacious and immaculate, the attention to detail throughout excellent, and the staff helpful and solicitous, especially with arranging massages at short notice and dealing with internet problems (no wi fi, sadly).

Apart from excellent breakfast and one simple snack lunch we always ate outside, so cannot comment on the food or wine.

The pool is small but nice, the masseuse (ask for Annemarie!) outstanding, and there are complimentary sauna, jacuzzi and fitness machines.

Overall we really thought this one of the best-run hotels we had ever seen.

We spent 2 nights at the hotel. The location and views are spectacular and our suite was beautiful. But we wouldn't really recommend it. 4 years ago this was the best hotel in the area and having visited for lunch we vowed to go and stay some time. But its changed hands and standards have slipped.

The service was fine, but went through the motions rather than feeling genuine. The wine is best avoided - pop to Graham Beck or another good estate and buy your own! And over all it just felt a bit like all the boxes had been ticked to meet certain standards but it had no personality.

The restaurant, however, was the most disappointing and very over priced. We tried the taster menu but whilst some dishes were good, it simply wasn't of the standard to have a taster menu. And combined with that dreary wine - a big thumbs down - especially with so many fabulous restaurants near by.

Overall - it's not cheap and we couldn't help but feel that there is much better out there.

We were a little apprehensive prior to staying at Mont Rochelle in March due to the mixed reviews on the forum. However we experienced top service, food and glorious views of the surrounding Franschoek valley.

The manager (Thierry) could not have been more helpful and made every effort to ensure our stay (honeymoon) was memorable. The small things were done well, from the one to one guided tour of the vineyard to the availability of mountain bikes for use and booking of restaurants in town - not to mention the sprinkling of rose petals on the bed every night!

A great place and by far the best views in Franschoek.
