Staff were amazingly friendly, location brilliantly central, rooms beautifully done and furnished with comfort top priority, food INCREDIBLE (were here over new year and had the set menu), very, very comfortable. Beautifully furnished inside and out, pool GORGEOUS, garden lovely and full of lavender etc with great views. Had a wonderful new year. Great buffet breakfast too!

I was a little bit nervous about our stay at Residence Klein Oliphants Hoek as I had read some mixed reviews, but I am pleased to say that we had a lovely stay. The guest house has a very authentic colonial feel and style to it. The central lounge/drawing room area that we entered into is a beautiful high-ceilinged room full of dark wood, elegant furniture and books.

We stayed in the 'Hidden Missionary Room', which had a similar feel to the central lounge area. We had a large comfy bed and a terrace plus a small splash pool. We very briefly used the pool a couple of times but it didn't get that much sun so it didn't get very warm. The bathroom was well equipped with both a bath and a shower.

Breakfast is included in the room rate and this was served on the main terrace overlooking the lavender and herb garden. The breakfast was nice enough; there were some cold options you could help yourself to such as scones and muffins and then you could order a cooked breakfast. We never ate dinner or lunch at the hotel so I cannot comment on how good the restaurant is.

The guest house is well located in central Franschhoek so it is a very quick walk to the main restaurants and shops. Some of the wineries are also in walking distance.

We did not experience the service much; it was absolutely fine and unobtrusive. Our room was kept very clean and everyone was very friendly. We borrowed a DVD one night to watch in our room, which was a nice touch. They also provide you with free sherry in your room - this is quite common in South African hotels in this area, but it is always a very welcome touch.

This charming boutique hotel is beautiful. A really calm, tranquil and relaxing environment.

Unfortunately we were only booked in for 1 night here and wish could have stayed longer. It was perfectly placed to visit many wineries and restaurants.

We would however definitely recommend eating here too. A superb menu of both Italian and South African food which you can enjoy on the veranda overlooking the beautiful garden with a view of the mountains in the background.

All the staff were very welcoming and helpful. The Owner, Renata, was a wonderful host, who spent time talking to all the guests at dinner whether you were staying at the house or just visiting for dinner.

We have been touring around SA for 3 weeks and at the end we can sincerely say: the overnight stay at the Klein Oliphant's Hoek was the best! We have had a warm welcome and we immediatelly felt like being at home. We have had a superb evening meal at the restaurant (actually the best during our stay in SA) and we would like to say "Grazie" to Renata and her staff for all we were able to experience. We are more then happy to sincerely recommend this great place to all our friends.

We were booked into Klein Oliphants Hoek as the last hotel on a three week tour of SA and Namibia. Our travel agent had consistently booked us into top hotels, and Klein Oliphant was no exception. The room was clean and well furnished, the bed was comfortable and the surroundings very welcoming. The staff made a great effort to make us comfortable and provided us with every assistance. The food was excellent, from the cooked breakfast to the dinner. The latter is to be be especially commended: the choice between an authentic Italian menu and a menu offering local specialities provided all the choice we needed.

We stayed here for 2 nights in October 2009. The hotel has a colonial feel to it.
Great breakfasts on the veranda with great views of the mountains. Its a good base to explore the winelands.

Don't let the two reviewers who clearly experienced this superb hotel during a difficult teething period put you off. This relaxed, well furnished hotel is the real deal.

An old mission house, the little elephant''s high ceilings, beautiful gardens and welcoming fireplace are amongst the highlights of one of the best places we have stayed in the world, let alone in South Africa.

The staff were, without exception, friendly and helpful (special mention to the lovely Nathalie) and our host, Renata, ensured we were happy throughout the stay.

The guest house is perfectly positioned for all the best restaurants - although the food in the guest house's own restuarant was so good we decided to eat in more often than not.

This is a gushing review I know, but with its excellent facilities, and staff, and poximity to the best vineyards in South Africa it is difficult to know how Klein Oliphants Hoek could be bettered.
