“City slicker voucher used”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 25, 2014

This restaurant is excellant, the service is top and food to die for. I had a city slicker voucher and used it for a Saturday night, on ordering we were told there is a glass of wine also which was a extra bonus. Our server was so nice and a gentalman, he really knew how to give great service.
Rubens food is fantastic, and this meal was right on par with the restautant in the main street of Franschhoek. In summer this location must be wonderful.
It really was a lovely night, and a restaurant i would recommened.

“Outstanding”

Set on Chamonix wine farm, Racine is a gem. The atmosphere is warm and unpretentious; and there's a great view from the deck. Considering the size of the portions, it was well priced. We had their signature dishes, which didn't disappoint

For starters, the chili salted squid was crisp on the outside and perfectly fresh and tender; infused with mint and a tangy Asian glaze. Delicious. 10/10

For mains, the beef cheek was "melt in the mouth"- hearty, rich and so tender you could eat it with a spoon. Thankfully the electricity cut for a few minutes and I could lick the bowl in complete darkness! A surprisingly large portion too. 10/10

The waiters were attentive and confident- commended for their service.

“Sublime”

We were welcomed for lunch the first day after their winter break. The welcome was as warm as the fire in the fireplace warming the restaurant on a cold winters day. The food was outstanding as was the service. Couldn't fault them. Definitely worth a visit when in Franschhoek

Racine definitely live up to the Reubens standard.Great food accompanied by excellent service. Duck salad was delicious and crunchy, Venison was tasty and cooked to perfection. Malva pudding was sweet and succulent. Will surely come back for more.

“Has promise...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2014 via mobile

Being a fan of Chamonix wine, we were keen to try the new(ish) restaurant on site. Being a cold and wet winters day, we were surprised to find that the restaurant was packed. Not that this is in itself a bad thing, but this seems to not be a restaurant for a quiet afternoon, with screaming kids and party-goer tables abound. Service was adequate in the beginning, but faded as the heat was turned up. Food was tasty, but not spectacular. More bistro/country style cuisine than fine dining, but similarly priced to some of the silver spoon establishments nearby, making one question value. Expected at least to have all Chamonix wine available by the glass, but instead only a handful were on offer. Bizarre, considering that the wine tasting counter was literally 20m away! Could do better in a region where consumers are spoilt for choice.
