“The Place To Stay In Franschhoek - 12th Visit And Will Keep Coming Back!!!”
Reviewed January 10, 2013

We travel all around the world and there is a reason we have been coming here for 12 years. World class views are unrivalled but more importantly the hotel is a place that makes you feel special. They cannot do enough to make sure you have the best experience. The staff are absolutely wonderful. The food consistently outstanding and the wine completes the picture. Well done Mont Rochelle!!! We will be back for visit 13 next year.

We did know this hotel under his name La Couronne - really a long time. Under the manager Kerrin Titmas this hotel was a little paradise. It was always a warm feeling to stay in this hotel with its special charme. With the manager Sean Granger the descent began step by step and now the hotel is absolute ruined. The rooms are dirty, the shower has black fungi and when using the shower it is water in the bathroom. The glas of the shower is limy. The floor under the toilet is rusty spotted. In the bedroom the linen is thin and the towels in the bathroom are thin too and not enough in number. Facecloths you never will find. The bathrobes are dirty and the window in the bathroom was cleaned propably last time a year ago or longer. Not better with the garden, never seen a gardener, lot of olive trees are sered, on the pathways sprood weed. The chief of the restaurant cooks very good, but the menue card is always the same. The sommelier has really absolute no idea about wines. The staff in the restaurant and of the whole hotel is doing the best for the guests, but they can not balance the big mistakes of the manager. Result: This hotel needs urgent a renovation and the importantst factor is that the hotel gets a new manager fast with the very right feeling and responsibility for his job. This would be the best motivation for the wonderful staff and would reanimate the spirit of a team.

The staff of the hotel is nice and helpful, but indeed the hotel needs a renovation. Cleanliness is not ok. The managment is professional and helps when needed.
Critical things_
The hotel is oposite the Franshoek Pass, that is frequently used by biker tours, due to the nice pass - you hear them all day long. Sounds less nice then on the "Nordschleife" :-)
Gyrocopter tours were offered in the valley in these times - it disturbed us in the afternoon frequently.

Unfortunately we were only here for 2 nights, we could have spent the whole holiday here! From the minute we entered the hotel we were spoiled! Luckily our visit coincided with a Veuve Cliqueot event at the hotel! Fine food paired with champagne! Fabulous! The breakfast choice was impressive, with a good range for all dietary requirements. The staff were all fantastic / (awesome!), and so quick to meet all your needs! Amazing room with gorgeous views, very spacious and all amenities.

What a fabulous place - from the minute we stepped into the gorgeous bar until we reluctantly left 3 days later we enjoyed every minute. The setting is stunning; the staff are awesome and the hotel is truly amazing. The breakfasts were lovely; from the Buck's Fizz through the Eggs Benedict to the home made breads and jams we loved it. We ate in the Mange Tout once and it could give any Michelin starred restaurant a run for its money. The smoked tomato soup was superb and the mains divine. The Country Kitchen was closed for a function but we went into Franschhoek to eat and were not disappointed. Pieter the head waiter was 'awesome' and made breakfast such fun - wish we had waiters like him in England. Spa treatments were great and we had the steam room and jacuzzi all to ourselves.

Our son and his family had stayed here before and recommended it. They were right to do so. It was pure indulgence. From the moment we were met at the front entrance and given the guided tour we were looked after immaculately in elegant, luxurious surroundings. Our room was spacious and light with great facilities and lovely view. The immediate grounds just melt into the wider countryside offering a vista to dream of.
The excellent breakfasts were matched by the dinners in the Mange Tout restaurant. While everyone was so friendly and helpful, we would particularly pay tribute to the breakfast team who were a delight.
We only had two nights here and wished for more.
Franschhoek has a lovely small village atmosphere very reminiscent of an English village in many ways, in stunning suroundings. Book a lunch at the Petite Ferme just across the valley if you have the time, you will not regret it. Do the wine tour and tasting and maybe a light lunch in the associated bistro style eatery as well.
5* in all respects.
We visited Stellenbosch. It is a small university town that many people stay at when visiting the region. It is busier and has more in the way of nightlife for those who wish it, but we much preferred the delights of the Mon Rochelle and Franschhoek.

Room Tip: They all seemed excellent from what we saw of them, but maybe try for a room with a view across the...

What a gorgeous hotel and vineyard Mont Rochelle is. We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. From the room service, spa treatments, wine tasting and amazing food in Mange Tout for breakfast and dinner, we were well and truly spoilt on our honeymoon, with a few extra special touches thrown in too.

We had a great time.
