“Hail to the Hugenots”

This place is brilliantly serene, beautiful and captivating. With all these artifacts and history housed there, no wonder franschhoek is full of culture and a great holiday sanctuary.

“The video at the start of the visitis worth a watch”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 17, 2013

We found the museum a bit ordinary but the video at the start of one's visit in interesting and then the rest is a wee bit plain. It is worth a quick half an hour tour if you have the time spare.

Something interesting to see if you have got a spare 30 minutes or an hour. Nice gardens. Nice bit of history. Nothing spectaculor or to write home about.

“Extremely interesting and worth a visit.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2013

We stopped here first as part of our tour using the wine tram. We went in knowing very little about Frankschoek and it's history and came out knowing much more.
There's lots of artefacts and Hugenot history. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
Wish we could have spent more time there as 40 minutes wasn't long enough but this was our first stop on the tram and we didn't know how much time we'd need for the rest of our visits that day.
Definitely worth visiting.

“Informative but presentation could be improved upon”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 7, 2013 via mobile

Museum provides interesting history on the Huguenots, but lacks variety of presentation. The majority of the information is up on boards and is quite staid in its style of writing. Definitely not one for children. We also found that well over half of the boards were in French, presumably due to the origins of the Huguenots but strange since the Huguenots themselves ceased speaking French within c. 3 generations. There is a video which is available in a variety of languages and is interesting to watch. Museum is inexpensive (10R) which is good since it takes c. 15 - 20 mins to view the place, and this includes the 10min video.
