Relaxed atmosphere with good gardens. I liked the calmness of the countryside and the good weather. The town of Franschoek is also situated right next to the Museum and could be easily explored by walking

We have read all we've found about the huguenots so we were excited to go to the museum. But we were really disappointed. Most of the texts were written in French. (I don't complain about that, because the huguenots were French!) But all information SHOULD have been translated into English also.
And the display of the museum was really old-fashioned. Sorry to say, but maybe we had too high expectations. We found the museum boring and did not bring our friends there.

A very well documented museum which traces the history of the French Huguenot from their persecution in France to their travel to South Africa and the establishment of the Franschhoek colony. A mix of books, movies, furniture, garments, instruments, guns and depiction of their homes.

Interesting visit which put into clear context how the Huguenots arrived in South Africa via the Netherlands and the contribution they have made to South Africa. A great many of the written documents were in French with little translation: also when we visited, there was at least one French group there at the same time. Although the French connection is clear not so much information was in Afrikaans which became the adopted language of the Huguenots in South Africa.
