Description: Take a seat overlooking the Rickety Bridge vineyards. Sip a glassful of crisp estate wine and enjoy a delicious lunch while drinking in the splendour of the magnificent surroundings. Every creation from our team of talented chefs is given extra zest by the striking beauty of the setting and stunning views of the Franschhoek mountains.Rickety Bridge is an enchanting Franschhoek wine estate that earns its place in the Cape’s cuisine capital. Franschhoek is home to some of the best restaurants in South Africa. The Restaurant in the Vines has made way for Paulina’s, named in honour of the original owner of the property in 1797, Paulina de Villiers. In keeping with current culinary trends, the restaurant features a variety of half and full portions of its exciting bistro style menu, allowing diners the opportunity to sample and share dishes.Executive chef Melissa Bruyns (previously at Haute Cabriere and Westin Grand) explains: “the half portions are larger than a conventional tapas serving, so ideal for sharing, or having as a starter. I believe in using fresh seasonal ingredients, and letting them speak for themselves, beautifully prepared and presented, but without over-elaboration. We have planted a herb and vegetable garden on Rickety Bridge to ensure that I have plenty to work with”

We arrived in Franschoek on 23rd December and promptly found that most places were booked up for Christmas Day lunch. Rickety Bridge vineyard was just down the road from our accommodation (Happy Valley self catering cottages) and we called in on the off chance. Although they were fully booked the manager of Paulina's very kindly said they would squeeze us in - a family of two adults and two children. We had the perfect table out on the patio and the four course meal was delicious and very reasonable. The recommended wine was, unsurprisingly, perfect too. The regular menu looked very good too and the setting was to die for. Lovely memories of a very special Christmas day.

We had a superb lunch at Paulina’s restaurant at Rickety Bridge .
We had the mussels in a cream and wine sauce followed by the line fish which was cob (rather like halibut) served with cubed potato in a leek puree. Puddings were the chocolate trio and assiete of berry desserts.
Everything was first class.
We tried the R.B. Sauvignon Blanc reserve - it was fabulous.
Service was excellent, the Maitre’D, Garth, excels at supervising staff using an invisible cord.
This was one of the best lunches we have had in Franschhoek.
The venue is situated in the vineyards of Rickety Bridge a most beautiful setting. I can imagine weddings here would be exquisite.
Highly recommended, we will return.

Called into winery to reserve a table for two on the verandah. When we arrived in good time we were offered a table in the corner of the covered deck which was entirely filled with large tour group as our table had been given away! We went elsewhere. Disappointing lack of service that other reviews suggest is quite common.

After booking a week in advance for a group of 20 for lunch at the restaurant, specifically requesting two tables of 10, and then calling the day before to confirm the booking again, I was more than angry to learn on our arrival they just didn't have tables for our party. They told me it was because of the weather and that they had a wedding planned for that evening as if these were problems that I should just deal with. They then asked if I would mind waiting an hour and a half for a table. My understanding is that when you make a booking and confirm that booking you then expect to be seated at your requested table on arrival. This was not the case. We were then squashed onto a table that was set for 14, not 20 and had to get up ourselves to get the missing 6 table settings, knifes and forks, side plates ect. We were never offered drinks and the services were no where to be seen for most of the time we were there. Our order was taken and the food arrived an hour and a half later, at this point we were the only table in the restaurant so I am not sure why the food took so long. The food lacked any flavor, all tasting the same. I had the calamari and a chicken salad, which looked and tasted like they had been cooked together. Then when the bill finally arrived, there were additions to it that we had not ordered. This whole ordeal took close on 3 hours.... for a one course lunch with no drinks. I would definitely not recommend the restaurant at Rickey Bridge to anyone.
