We did the Red route on an extremely hot day. We planned the trip beforehand and decided exactly where and when we were going to get off. We got off at 3 wine farms which was enough. The first one we visited was Leopard's Leap which was excellent for wine tasting. We bought a few bottles of wine and were able to give them to the driver who kept them for us at the ticket office for us to collect at the end of the day. We paid for wine tasting but if you buy 2 bottles of wine the tasting is free. Our second stop was Rickety Bridge. We had booked for lunch at the restaurant there, Paulina's, beforehand. Lunch was very good with great food and service. We did some wine tasting after lunch which was rather disappointing with very poor service. Our next stop was Grande Provence which is a beautiful wine estate. We sat under the trees and tasted wine which was very relaxing after a long, hot day. I would definitely recommend the tour to anyone staying in Franschhoek. We stayed over for the night as we didn't want to drink and drive. The tour runs like clockwork so make sure you're not late. I would suggest doing some research beforehand to see which farms you would like to visit and to allow around 5 hours for the tour.
