Owner description: Discover the Vineyards of Franschhoek. The Franschhoek Wine Tram hop-on hop-off tour is one of the best ways to discover the true essence of the Franschhoek Valley - picturesque vineyards, breath-taking scenery, warm hospitality, world-class cuisine, fine wines and a 300-year history. Tour Experience: Passengers aboard the hop-on hop-off tour will experience a unique and leisurely introduction to the Franschhoek Valley as they journey through rolling vineyards in an open-side tram and open-air tram-bus stopping at some of South Africa's oldest and most distinguished wine estates. A combination of tram and tram-bus follows a loop of stops allowing guests to hop off at each stop and experience the activities on offer, such as wine tasting, a cellar tour, lunch or simply a stroll through the vineyards. When ready guests simply hop on to continue the tour. The tour takes guests into the heart of the Franschhoek Valley, with a guided commentary and unparalleled views of the valley and vineyards. Ticket prices: R170 - R220

We did the Red route on an extremely hot day. We planned the trip beforehand and decided exactly where and when we were going to get off. We got off at 3 wine farms which was enough. The first one we visited was Leopard's Leap which was excellent for wine tasting. We bought a few bottles of wine and were able to give them to the driver who kept them for us at the ticket office for us to collect at the end of the day. We paid for wine tasting but if you buy 2 bottles of wine the tasting is free. Our second stop was Rickety Bridge. We had booked for lunch at the restaurant there, Paulina's, beforehand. Lunch was very good with great food and service. We did some wine tasting after lunch which was rather disappointing with very poor service. Our next stop was Grande Provence which is a beautiful wine estate. We sat under the trees and tasted wine which was very relaxing after a long, hot day. I would definitely recommend the tour to anyone staying in Franschhoek. We stayed over for the night as we didn't want to drink and drive. The tour runs like clockwork so make sure you're not late. I would suggest doing some research beforehand to see which farms you would like to visit and to allow around 5 hours for the tour.

We took the blue route and enjoyed it very much. We can recommend this trip to any one who enjoys the outdoors.

My tip would be to start as early as possible to have enough time to visit all the farms on the route. We started at 10:00.

Blue Line - Do yourself a favour avoid Holden Manz, Chamonix wines arent very good. Head staright to Rickety Bridge & Grande Provence these are at the end and are 10x better than the others but they limit your time there to 20/30mins!

The start location is very central. We walked from our guesthouse. When we purchased the tickets, they were very helpful in reviewing the map and explaining how the tour worked. You start on a bus/tram. Then transfer to a train and even a tractor. Lots of fun!
We enjoyed not having to drive. Everything ran on time and was organized. Very easy and reasonable price. Several wine tastings and discounts are included. I recommend you start by noon or before noon to be able to see all the stops. You can easily get a cheese platter, but for lunch make sure to book the day before.

A great and stress free way to travel through the spectacular wine country. Wine tasting was included in the price of the ticket at some vineyards.
