Tour Experience: Passengers aboard the hop-on hop-off tour will experience a unique and leisurely introduction to the Franschhoek Valley as they journey through rolling vineyards in an open-side tram and open-air tram-bus stopping at some of South Africa's oldest and most distinguished wine estates. When ready guests simply hop on to continue the tour. The tour takes guests into the heart of the Franschhoek Valley, with a guided commentary and unparalleled views of the valley and vineyards. Ticket prices: R170 - R220

The only disappointment was that the Huguenot Museum was not open on Sunday, so we missed this, but the wineries on the route were beautiful and the staff very helpful. Interesting concept of transportation-bus, tram, tractor, but TIA (this is Africa).

Tram and bus staff were so helpful and pleasant. This was the day after the floods when the service was disrupted due flood damage.

We were with a rather large group of swedes that took dominance over everything. They overbooked the tram a little that day so my husband and I had to walk after the tractor to Rickety Bridge and when we got there the Swedes had eaten all the cheese and then we had to wait an extra 20 mins for them to turn back up to the tram but hey when you are in one of the most beautiful places you can imagine you take it all on the chin. (I think it was an overbooking problem rather than a Swedish problem. ;) ) We had a fabulous day and I saw some Pale Chanting Goshawks flying over the Rickety Bridge trees. :)

The wine tram was a lot of fun!! Took us most of the day to complete the route - we visited 4 of the 5 wineries offered. Tasted a lot of wine and it was convenient to not have to worry about someone in the group having to drive from place to place. There were 2 tastings included with the price of our ticket - we also paid for a tasting at one of the other wineries, which was very decent, just R20 per person. Amazing views at all of the wineries - we especially enjoyed Dieu Donne where we went to their restaurant Roca (Mediterranean food, lots of options, lots of smaller plates which was good for sharing). Would 100% recommend this tour to anyone!

We caught the wine tram at the end of November. The tram stops at five farms (and a museum if thats your vibe), in order:
1. Haute Cabriere
2. Dieu Donne
3. Chamonix
4. Rickety Bridge
5. Grand Provence

The trip includes a bit in a small bus (think game viewing vehicle style with open sides) and a small stint on an actual tram for the Rickety Bridge and Grand Provence legs. It picks up in the middle of the town, making it an easy walk for anyone staying nearby.

A very cool way to see quite a few farms, without anyone needing to be designated driver for the day. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a cool way to see some of the best farms in Franschoek without having to mission from one spot to the next. If you are going to do the trip, book off an entire day.

2  Thank BrendonV
