“Best wine and dine in Franschhoek”
Reviewed October 27, 2012

Kitchen at Maison is world class - decor, food, their own wine and friendly top notch service. Style is contemporary, less is more and, still warm and welcoming. Sort of chic robust A beautiful lawn, with wineyards and horses as a backdrop. Food is elaborate, elegant and so so tasty. Maison's wine is also really good, especially the Chardonnay. Bring some bottles home, as well as their preserves, oils and other goodies. You eat and drink like a king, but feel so relaxed. Best in show!

“Hello!”
Reviewed September 26, 2012

Amidst all the hype it's so rare to find something that really lives up to expectation. This place was one of those. We arrived without a reservation and was seated immediately. The place was almost to capacity, but yet it felt spacious and cosy at the same time, with a wide open grass area for kids to run around on and a view over the vineyard. Their wine selection was excellent. People often quote this rule of thumb for Italian restaurants: order a deceptively simple dish like a spaghetti bolognaise to see what the caliber of the place is. Same goes, but for most restaurants, it's the bread standard. This bread was the most delicious bread I have ever eaten. Chewy, salty, fresh. My wife had the rock cod, which was excellent, I had the charcuterie with home-made salami, pate, parma ham and few other items, complemented by a nice Darling Breweries Weisbier. Afterwards we floated down into the garden where a comfy couch was beckoning and watched a Dutch pater familias try to pot the huge wicker finches nest swing hanging from an oak with a soccer ball, and even that seemed kinda acceptable after such a lovely meal. I can't wait to go there again.

“A lovely find!”

Great white wines - Maison offer a very good Rose wine. Decor and food are amazing. The back offers some brilliant views of the Franschoek mountains - Maison has several wooden long tables which would be ideal for groups in summer!

“So tiny but so charming”
Reviewed September 1, 2012

We just kinda stumbled in at the end of the day. This is not wine tasting Napa-style. This winery is a combo winery & restaurant. The tasting was done in a living room type area: we sat in lounge chairs & sofas around a coffee table. Some wines were served with a bit of meat & cheese; some served w/chocolate. Very good.
But this is only a 4 hectacre winery. So no wines available commerically. Only in local restaurants. But very charming!. Nice outdoor area
