Owner description: GlenWood is a very special place. Located in the little-known valley of Robertsvlei, a few kilometers from Franschhoek, close to Cape Town, the farm is surrounded by aspects of outstanding natural beauty. Using only the best materials and sustainable viticulturist practices, we have developed the farm over the past twenty seven years, winning numerous awards for our vineyards and our hand-crafted wines. Our credo, "simple, natural, quality", pervades our thinking across all parts of the business; simple, be it architecture, label design or the way we approach decisions; natural, be it the farming practices we use, the wine making process itself, or the replanting of indigenous fynbos throughout the farm; quality, be it of the grapes we produce, the wines we vinify, or the human relationships we foster on and off the farm.

Glenwood is known for its Chardonnay (bloody nice, couldn't agree more). They recently opened a restaurant called Bon Vivant. Incredible views into a stunning valley. Restaurant isn't to big, has a really yummy menu so all I can say, drive around the corner and give this place a try.

Visited several vineyards in the Franschhoek area whilst touring the region and this was one of the best. A bit out of the way and not easily found, but well worth a visit. The wines were excellent and the wooded Chardonnay is to die for. The service was first class and the explanation accompanying each wine was very informative. A must visit for any wine buff.

The wines were truly lovely and the guy attending to our wine tasting was really knowledge about all sorts of wine information not just their wines. The reason I scored it 4 only is that the restaurant service was painfully slow even though they weren't that busy. If I was to score the wine tasting only than it would have been a definite 5.

We had heard bout this spot , but took a while to visit. Very quiet on a beautiful Sunday afternoon - it was again a little disconcerting.

But WOW! The ambience, food, service and wine were exceptional. Avoid the cheaper in wooded Chardonnay and pay extra for the much more expensive wooded version - it's proper.

Can't wait to come back to our little secret spot!

Do go down the dusty road to Glenwood. This is a boutique vineyard just outside Franschhoek, just off the R45.

They have lovely views and the wine tasting, 30R per head is very good. We tried their wines a few years ago and they have greatly improved. The young lady was very knowledgeable and personable. All the wines are made from vines on the estate.

Do try Okamai, the Japanese restaurant on the same site - reviewed separately.
