"One valley's ceiling is another Pass's floor!" On a Sunday morning in February we came over Franschhoek Pass with about 100m visibility at the top. Two hairpins down the Franschhoek side the table cloth effect broke open into perfect visibility stretching out before us. Speckled sunlight on the valley floor added a special touch to the patches of vines, fruit, and whitened structures. At one of the many convenient, well placed view points a troop of baboons were crossing the road on their way to higher climbs. One pensive baboon gave me the impression that she was thinking the same thoughts as all the other visitors: "Where would I pick my dream home in Franschhoek?" The view is always a treasure but the dreamy baboon was priceless. Don't miss the Franschhoek Pass when you are privileged to visit what we call "Paradise!"

hit this early (weekends are best)or you will get behind heavy goods avoiding the Paarl tunnel toll, and you will have time for photo stops and a more relaxing drive.

After the Swartberg Pass this was a drive in the country. But still very scenic and the road is well maintained. Not a must do drive but well worth it if you are in the area

The wineries in the area are all welcoming and produce very good wine. Couple this with the beauty of the Pass and life is good! (Don't drink and drive - it's more or less zero tolerence in South ASfrica!)
