“Moonrise cottage was dirty”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2013 via mobile

It seems that the quality of a stay here is greatly influenced by the cottage you end up in. We stayed in the moonrise cottage and booked into Reeden after reading mainly positive reviews. It appears that the friendly owners had forgotten to actually book a unit for us and consequently we may have been given this cottage without it being fully prepared. In short the cottage was filthy. We needed to clean the bath out ourselves, the fridge was covered in debris of previous visitors, the couches were dirty, stained and threadbare. Luckily the Bedding and towels provided were clean and fresh. The furnishing have seen better days, the towel rack in the bathroom was broken as was the headboard. The tv was functional but not useable, it was a tiny old CRT type with the such poor signal that made it near to impossible to view anything. Possibly the most repulsive aspect of the visit was all the dead, squashed insects everywhere that seem to have been cumulatively built over many successive visits/years - there were markings on walls, doors and ceiling. It was gross and I won't even go into what it looks like under the couches should you drop anything there. The location is ideal, the surroundings very quiet, beautiful and peaceful but with a little bit of maintenance and a thorough cleaning I would recommend this cottage but I couldn't in good conscious, recommend this particular cottage though the other cottages may be of a better, more hygienic standard.

The setting of the cottages at Reeden Lodge is lovely. However since our last visit we got the feeling that little had been done to improve facilities. The bungalow we had this time was in need of redecoration and the upholstery was stained. The shower and bathroom facilities were on a poor standard. There was no WIFI which is surprising in this day and age.
Notwithstanding the above the owners were friendly and helpful and given upgrades to the bungalows I would be very pleased to visit again.

This is the best value for money I have come across in Franschhoek, and since I am from Cape Town, we visit the town quite often. We had a group of 8 that all wanted to stay together, and Reeden Lodge offered the perfect option in the Willow Tree cottage. This is not a 5 star experience, but it is within walking distance to the main road of the town and easy access to everything you need. It is clean and has all the self-catering amenities you might need, it is literally like a home away from home. Rooms are spacious and perfect for what we needed. We did however have an issue with no hot water in the top room but there are two more bathrooms so we were fine. The farm is gorgeous and really peaceful and the hospitality of the owners really makes you want to stay longer. We will definitely be back!

Room Tip: As we were a large group of 8, we stayed in the Willow Tree cottage. There is ample space in this co...

+ Great view of sheep, pond, willow trees, all from a private cottage....totally peaceful
+ cosy little cottage with kitchen, couch, tv, fireplace outside and wood stove in.
+ the owner Polly was very friendly
+ walking to great dinner locations in town.
+ sitting on the porch drinking wine looking at the birds

- double or queen bed downstairs was a bit small for two and the upstairs twins were not that comfy
- no wifi in the cottage

all in all we loved it and thought of going back during our two weeks because it was so cozy. Definetly a great value and place to unwind.

I stayed in one of the cottages for 2 months and i just didn't want to leave ... Everything about this place is perfect !!!! Lovely owners, smiling and tidy cleaners, helpfull gardeners (especially for the bbq) and adorables cats !!!! The cottage is peacefull and fully furnished, with your own barbecue ...
Really close to town, you can do everything by walk and enjoy the sunshine at the same time !!!
There is a nice smiming pool area where you can have a lazy afternoon underneath a tree ...
I recommend this place to everyone from 0 to 99 years old because whatever you are looking for, you will find it there ....

We stayed for 3 nights and the entire family was very happy! Thanks to the hospitality of the owners and the beautiful lush gardens and very comfortable cottages we had the feeling of being at home away from home.

Our family members from Switzerland expressed the same feeling. Wow!!

I recommend this place to young and old.

The ground and the setting is lovely. The accommodation is very dated, run down and dirty. No evidence of maintenance on the accommodation for many years. Whilst the bedding and towels were clean, they were very old. The kitchen, veranda and lounge were dusty on arrival, with limited service throughout our stay.
