Description: The name of the restaurant was inspired by La Motte's admiration of South African artist Jacob Hendrik Pierneef (1886 - 1957). Pierneef's creativity in portraying the beauty of the South African landscape is echoed in the restaurant's offering of traditional cuisine with a modern interpretation. The restaurant interior blends beautifully with the external surroundings - a fresh, natural look inside is embraced by tranquil gardens and majestic oak trees - where a Winelands Tea with a selection of home-baked delights from the La Motte Farm Shop can be enjoyed. The exclusively arranged Pierneef a La Motte Chef's Table offers a fine-dine menu in line with guests' preferences, as pre-arranged with Chef Michelle Theron, as well as a harmoniously complementing wine selection

“Well worth a visit!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 17, 2014

An incomparable setting on the grounds of La Motte wine estate. Our repeat visit for lunch was a huge hit for our party nine people. Expensive for a South African restaurant but inventive preparations that avoid any sense of pretentiousness. An ideal place for a leisurely lunch while visiting the charming town of Franschoek. Reservations essential!

“Wonderful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 6, 2014

We were recommended to go for Sunday Lunch by friends and were glad of the recommendation. The restaurant is situated in the La Motte winery and is beautiful with lovely gardens surrounding.
From the outset the service was attentive and efficient and the food was out of this world, Well presented an full of flavour and taste.
Booking is essential as the restaurant is so popular, not surprising because it is so good.

“Lovely lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 4, 2014 via mobile

Visited La Motte for a lazy Sunday lunch, an hours drive from Cape Town. Modern decor complemented by interesting Pierneef pieces add to the stylish but casual atmosphere. Service courteous and friendly, but food was the star of the show. Venison roulade was superb, as was the chicken crown and sugar cured venison loin. Soufflés for desert were absolutely perfect! Award winning La Motte wines available by the glass, as well as some older vintages from the vinoteque rounded off a memorable experience!

“Worth the trip”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 4, 2014 via mobile

We had a late lunch following a morning of wine tasting in the valley. The menu is quite exciting, although very rich choices. The entrees were exceptional - the citrus cured salmon was lovely, delicate and beautifully presented. I enjoyed my filet which was perfectly cooked with a lovely group of flavours. Despite being warned by the waitstaff that the springbok was chewy, it was meltingly tender but too sweet. The pork belly had an accompaniment of a flower pot - butternut and carrot tart - which was cold and didn't add to the dish apart from visual appeal. We needed a salad to cut the richness.

Lovely cheese platter, the service was knowledgable and functional if not overly attentive. The setting is lovely.
