Description: The name of the restaurant was inspired by La Motte's admiration of South African artist Jacob Hendrik Pierneef (1886 - 1957). Pierneef's creativity in portraying the beauty of the South African landscape is echoed in the restaurant's offering of traditional cuisine with a modern interpretation. The restaurant interior blends beautifully with the external surroundings - a fresh, natural look inside is embraced by tranquil gardens and majestic oak trees - where a Winelands Tea with a selection of home-baked delights from the La Motte Farm Shop can be enjoyed. The exclusively arranged Pierneef a La Motte Chef's Table offers a fine-dine menu in line with guests' preferences, as pre-arranged with Chef Michelle Theron, as well as a harmoniously complementing wine selection

“Wonderful location and great meal”
Reviewed January 12, 2014

Part of a gastro few days in Franshoek. The wine farm is just 5k from the centre of town and provides a wonderfully peaceful oasis with great food and wonderful wine.
Inventive food presented beautifully......and with good service as well.
The value of the rand makes all eating and drinking out great value so well worth splashing out.

“Absolutely breathtaking”
Reviewed January 10, 2014

La motte is simply breathtaking. From the wonderful collection of Pierneef paintings in the private museum, through to the kitchen garden, hiking, tasting room and grounds. The restaurant Pierneef at La Motte is a really special day out. the scenery and decor are beautiful. We ate a gorgeous seasonal salad as a starter, with a sustainable swordfish and calamari with greens, and a grilled marinated lamb on barley and peas, with mashed potatoes as mains. Ended with espresso and home made truffles. The service was wonderful. The wines, especially the organic sauvignon blanc and the shiraz viognier are also really special. Overall, one of the nicest places in the region!

“Outstanding”
Reviewed January 1, 2014 via mobile

Lunch at La Motte was a culinary delight. Chris Erasmus brings innovation and style to the freshest of ingredients; service is efficient and well-schooled, with a smile. But it is the food which shines in a foodie region. As the Michelin Guide would say, worth a detour! Chris rocks!

La Motte Winery and its restaurant Pierneff it's absosutely a must. We do not know a better setting in the winelands: extraordinery and romantic!
The service is perfect, the food fantastic and outstanding. We've had a risotto as a starter - better than those we've ever had in Italy.... And we are living in Tuscany. Compliments to the chef and his team!
Thank you for a perfect dinner at a perfect place with a perfect service...
We definitely will come back soon.

“Delightful!”
Reviewed December 27, 2013

Pierneef a la motte is a delight in many ways: a lovely setting, modern and tasteful décor, polished service, excellent food and wine. They really go out of their way to please their customers, from the menus which are available in english and afrikaans, to the free amuse bouche and pre dessert. Food presentation is an art here, each plate a joy to behold.

Chef Chris Erasmus is friendly and looks happy in his kitchen. Always good to see someone really enjoying what they do. It was also good to see him busy scrubbing the kitchen as service began to wind down.

Just one minor dislike, and this is purely personal. I hope the chef does not get too much into molecular gastronomy, which made its appearance in my dish of braised smoked pork. The Gruyère-flavoured milk came in the form of a foam which did not taste of much.

But we will definitely be back!

Thank you for visiting us and sending a positive review. You do not have to worry about molecular gastronomy at all - our focus is more on regional and local cuisine, contemporary in style, but not from a laboratory or molecular style. We have a lot of new menus and recipes planned for this year, fresh vegetables out of La Motte's garden and free-range and sustainable meat, poultry and fish included. Have a wonderful 2014. Warm regards
