Description: The name of the restaurant was inspired by La Motte's admiration of South African artist Jacob Hendrik Pierneef (1886 - 1957). Pierneef's creativity in portraying the beauty of the South African landscape is echoed in the restaurant's offering of traditional cuisine with a modern interpretation. The restaurant interior blends beautifully with the external surroundings - a fresh, natural look inside is embraced by tranquil gardens and majestic oak trees - where a Winelands Tea with a selection of home-baked delights from the La Motte Farm Shop can be enjoyed. The exclusively arranged Pierneef a La Motte Chef's Table offers a fine-dine menu in line with guests' preferences, as pre-arranged with Chef Michelle Theron, as well as a harmoniously complementing wine selection

“A real treat of a menu - The Chef's Menu - not to be missed!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 15, 2013

We loved our evening spent at Pierneef - La Motte Restaurant. We both had the Chef's Menu and were delighted by it's original, exquisitely executed tasting menu. My husband opted for the wine pairing whilst I stuck to alcohol free version! The 5 course meal was a real surprise, we had sous vide egg, truffle emulsion, roasted sweetbreads and one of my favorite - beef bone marrow. This was not the end.... a delicious rib-eye steak, with braised fennel and buchu honey onions ended our savoury experience. Do not miss out on the dessert. To finish off our perfect evening at Pierneef we had a mouth watering display of textures of chocolate and banana whimsically presented to wow any guest. Thank you to the chef for a really memorable evening.

“the perfect restaurant for lunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 12, 2013

La Motte is a magic place : the setting, the scenery, the quality of the tasting facilities, the shop...I've been coming back again and again for years without being disappointed. The food is always fresh and inventive, the wine is what SA has best to offer (Organic Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz-Viognier, and even the Millennium Bordeaux blend) for a reasonable price.
At lunch time, choose a table in the garden or with view on it (veranda). The service is a little bit precious but good. And despite the 'posh' feel, this is a kids friendly place.
So, why not 5 stars ? just because we had a few poor experiences at dinner time : super slow service, irritating inflexible staff (they stop serving really early and won't make any efforts for you), and very disappointing ambiance : the place is too big not to be full. So, my advice : go there for lunch (book well in advance) and you won't regret it !

“THIRD TIME LUCKY”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 7, 2013

The first visit to La Motte was in the old tasting facility long ago. The second visit was to inspect the new center complex for La Motte's public image. The third visit was to wine and dine in Pierneef at La Motte. Smart move; good choice!!! We had seen something of the venue on Masterchef South Africa and had to satisfy our curiosity. What a treat!!! The Pierneef collection of lino prints is food for the soul. The staff is about as trained as trained gets. The setting is friendly but upper crust. The food is far more than haute cuisine....it's good to eat! Check out the chandeliers made from somebody's china set hanging from the ceiling! The place is full of design ideas conjured up from the most unusual of creative minds. Nice feel. Third time lucky.

“Wonderful restaurant in beautiful setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 6, 2013

We were a group of 6 adults and 5 children and were very well looked after. We loved the decor and the open kitchen. Food and service was excellent and the children enjoyed the oversized chess set in the grounds while the adults lingered over their wine.

“Relaxed Dining Experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 2, 2013

We went there on a whim and were pleasantly surprised with a wonderful experience starting with the museum giving the history of La Motte and a magnificent display of Pierneef Masterpieces followed by lunch at the restaurant bearing the artist's name. The service was friendly, attentive and unobtrusive and our waiter knew his menu without over elaborating. My wife had the venison shank which was excellent with wonderful flavours. I had the Quail and Duck, the most expensive dish on the menu, which was a disappointment. The dish was a bit bland with the meat being on the chewy side. All this washed down with a lovely bottle of La Motte Sauvignon Blanc. The desert was mouthwatering. I thought the restaurant was on the pricey side of the scale which makes it a 'special occasion' restaurant for those not paying in foreign currency.
