Description: The name of the restaurant was inspired by La Motte's admiration of South African artist Jacob Hendrik Pierneef (1886 - 1957). Pierneef's creativity in portraying the beauty of the South African landscape is echoed in the restaurant's offering of traditional cuisine with a modern interpretation. The restaurant interior blends beautifully with the external surroundings - a fresh, natural look inside is embraced by tranquil gardens and majestic oak trees - where a Winelands Tea with a selection of home-baked delights from the La Motte Farm Shop can be enjoyed. The exclusively arranged Pierneef a La Motte Chef's Table offers a fine-dine menu in line with guests' preferences, as pre-arranged with Chef Michelle Theron, as well as a harmoniously complementing wine selection

We recently had lunch there as a thank you to the people we were staying with. The service, food, wine (it is located in the winery) and location were amazing. What was even more so was the cost. It was Michelon service and cuisine for road house prices. I would highly reccomend it.

We had a Sunday afternoon lunch at Pierneef a la Motte on 4 Nov 2012. Starters were very tasty however the calamari and wildebeest salad was let down by having only 2 small pieces of calamari and 3 nickel-sized pieces of candied wildebeest. Very tasty thought. The venison terrine was much more generous and very tasty. For mains, we had the pork belly and the steak special. The pork belly was very tasty but a bit on the dry side. Compared with Babel down the road, this pork belly was not quite at the same level. The steak which was ordered rare to medium rare arrived a little past medium and only marginally pink in the middle. After a couple bites, sent it back. Was grudgingly served another steak after being lectured about how 36-day meat does not have a lot of blood left in it. The 2nd steak arrived a few minutes later, predictably blue and still cold in the middle. Was tired of complaining and being treated as though it was our mistake at this point so ate half of it while it was somewhat warm. Desserts were excellent. Overall the meal had great potential with innovative use of ingredients and a lovely setting and atmosphere. If you over-cook a steak though, the professional approach is to simply replace it with a properly cooked one without trying to score sarcastic points by drastically under-cooking the next one. We won't be rushing back.

Sincere apologies from the whole Pierneef team that you have not had a wonderful experience at Pierneef. After discussing your meal and feed-back, we realise that by being so proud of the wonderful product and specially matured meat that we serve, and in addition in trying to share it with you, we have not given you good service. Please accept our apology and assurance that it was not our intention to be sarcastic, but rather a case of over-compensation and genuinely working hard to satisfy our customors, but in the process giving you too much information. We hope that you will be back soon.

We enjoyed a fantastic lunch of authentic South African fare including chicken, pork and fish dishes. The deserts were fantastic as was the wine. Had the estates Shiraz / Viognier which is exceptional. We will return.

what a beautiful setting ,pity food does not match up to it.for coffee and cakes the most expensive in franschhoek ,and not good food either.what a pity after the expense of laying out such a high end venue that the service and food does not live up to expectation.this is my third visit ,and not much has really improved food wise ,maybe a rethink on menu and staff would be in order.
