Description: Monneaux Restaurant ranks among South Africa's top restaurants, and serves an inspired contemporary take on the classics. Lunch is enjoyed on the fountain terrace under a spreading pepper tree while dinner is enjoyed in the elegant but relaxed dining room in the original manor house. Set on the original site of Franschhoek's first parfumerie, today its the heavenly scent of chef Adrian Buchanans cooking that inspires at the Monneaux Restaurant, a Cape culinary classic. Even by the food & wine capital of the country's high standards, Monneaux is an extra-ordinary success, having been in the country's Top 100 list for six years consecutively, on the Top 10 list for two years and winning the American Express Platinum Award for fine dining. The underground cellar is available for private functions where dinner can be enjoyed by an impressive selection of local and foreign wines. The restaurant's bar lounge provide a comfortable environment to relax and enjoy the company you're with. The wine list emphasizes the boutique wines of the Franschhoek Valley as well as an impressive selection of other award winning wines of South Africa

We sat inside as the weather was rather cool and the wind was blowing. We chose the 5 course tasting menu with pairing of wines as it was our first evening at the hotel.
We started with a refined Beetroot and onion tarte Tatin paired with a la Motte Sauvignon Blanc. We then followed with a crisp Salt & Pepper Shrimp served with a Ponzu sauce and tasted a fruity Boschkloof Chardonnay. Then I had the Karoo rack of Lamb with a Porcupine ridge Shiraz while my partner tasted the Bacon wrapped Kingklip with a Graham Chenin Blanc. Cheese was a Camembert melt with honey, walnut and macerated berries. Truly wonderful and accompanied by a Rickety ridge natural sweet.
To crown a wonderful and refined meal we had a Creme Brule served with a Nederburg Noble Late Harvest.
Coffee and truffles followed to end a perfect first experience of Franschhoek.

Great, unhurried French dining. We had a wonderful five course lunch in their outdoor dining space at the end of December.

The staff was great, even though they may have given us too much space... Occasionally hard to track down during our two hour meal.

The food was delicious and well-portioned for a multi-course meal. They were able to accommodate a couple of requests to alter the prix fixe menu.

The wine pairings were spot on.

The patio area was a great spot for lunch, and I'm sure it didn't hurt that it was a beautiful sunny day in the mid-70s F.

We spent a week in Franschhoek. It was a busy time, and while we didn't get to go everywhere we wanted to, we ate at several of the top restaurants. Monneaux was the best!

Highly recommended.

We had a fantastic experience. From the sparkling wine in the lounge next to the fire place to our table also next to a fire place. Everything is good. We had four starters, all good! Very good service, ambience, food and with good company - what more can you desire?

What a great find in a town we visit so often - unaware of this restaurant it was recommended by firends of us who live in the village. Food was really very good - a decent plate of food and very good value. Service friendly and not overbearing - only shortcomming was the lack of in-depth knowledge of their local wines.

Fantastic staff and fabulous food and wine, good value too! There are a lot of great places to eat in the region, but Monneaux delivered.
