The food was very good .The outside seating needs to be modernised to reflect the modern style cooking.

I ate here at the end of a long day touring the wine region. Having walked the length of the main street and back again, I was attracted by the varied and interesting menu, and the helpful wait staff. Starter of a fishcake with apple salad tasted good, but the breadcrumb was clearly overcooked. Fillet steak with vegetables for the main was requested medium, but arrived definitely medium-well - it didn't matter though, because it was a delicious, very large piece of meat. A glass of local red wine complemented the dishes perfectly. The slight overcooking is the only thing I can fault this restaurant on - the food tasted great, and the service was excellent. It is likely that the head chef was not working that day, as I'm sure he would not have allowed these mistakes - every good chef knows how to cook a steak to order. Moral - don't eat here on a Monday! Note - the menu on the web site does not match the menu on the day.

We read about the restaurant on the internet and promptly booked a table for the Friday night special which offered a steak and a glass of wine for ZAR100. When we arrived there was a little hick-up and when sorted out, the kitchen offered dessert on the house even before our food arrived. I've never had a culinary experience like this before. The booklet I took with me afterwards, says it all: "The menu imbues a cultural mix of flavours that meet in an environment characterised by delightful hospitality and culinary excellence."

My son had Kingklip while we had the steak - it was beyond delicious, tender and served in such a way that we took photos of the food. Pumpkin will never be the same....the garnishing were palatable...an experience pleasure! Thereafter the dessert....The restaurant again offered there apologies for the slight misunderstanding at the beginning which after all this glorious delightful food were already forgotten and long forgiven. Service was prompt, friendly and in no way bothersome. The bill? WORTH EVERY CENT and very very affordable. With drinks and the best espresso included, just less than ZAR350!
The back music was ambient, the restaurant quiet and outside a few other tourists were enjoying the late afternoon sunlight and peacefulness of Franschoek. At the Huguenot monument up the road the Cap Classique was preparing for their annual festival, but down here the three of us were satisfied to the brim. We would LOVE to come back.

Looks a bit unassuming from the outside, but once inside the service is attentive in a personal way, staff are smiling and helpful. The centrally located fireplace adds to the ambience on a cold evening.
Foods is excellent and wine range very good. Try their Lynx shiraz! The complimentary kirsch after the meal is so unusual in SA and a good digestive indeed.
