“Best place in Franschhoek!”
Reviewed January 3, 2014

We had the most wonderful time at Franschhoek Manor. We stayed three nights and made the reservation through Booking.com. Unfortunately they made a mistake and we had to change rooms after the second night. We did however have the opportunity to experience two rooms and they both were absolutely beautifully decorated, both with a huge bathroom with separate bath and shower. The beds were very comfortable and there was fresh fruit and a complementary bottle of wine.
The landscaped garden, in full bloom and the spectacular view made the 'al fresco' breakfast a more than memorable experience. Very kind staff and Wolfgang was inexhaustible in helping us with dinner reservations. We cant't wait to return to this charming piece of paradise.

Room Tip: the blue room was more than charming.

There is no doubt this is a beautiful hotel. The gardens are stunning with many amazing flowers. Lovely infinity pool and great view of the mountains. It was relaxing by the pool and plenty of shady places to be on your own if you wanted. Great location with a short drive into town. However, personally I didn't feel at ease in this hotel and felt it was a bit formal for my liking. Although the living room had lovely sofas etc it didn't feel as if you would go in and 'disturb' the 'look'. The buffet at breakfasts were a bit on the sparse side and not replaced too quickly when they foods ran out! And, although you were offered 'eggs' it didn't feel you were encouraged to ask for other items. I did ask for bacon and mushrooms one morning and got one small thin slice of bacon and 1/4 of a mushroom! Maybe we had been spoilt at all the other hotels we stayed in where the food was always plentiful with more coffee and teas offered.

Thanks very much for your review, nevertheless allow us just a few comments: 1. We are happy that you enjoyed the Franschhoek Manor. 2. I'm sorry that you didn't feel that well in our lounge (you can't do it right for everybody!) and 3. The breakfast is made by purpose this way, in order to serve everything fresh (this is why we have the slicing machine for meet and cheese in the kitchen). If you would have asked for more BACON and/or MUSHROOMS I'm sure you would have got it!
Regards Wolfgang

Excellent standard of accomodation and the house is fantastic. Our room was more like a serviced apartment and had lots of space and a separate living room, which was a real treat. Food at breakfast was excellent and Wolfgang gave some very good recommendations for dinner. The pool area is lovely and the mountain views are awesome. Would stay here again is we were back in franschhoek!

A truly wonderful, relaxing and exceptional 5 star guesthouse with comfortable, tastefully furnished and decorated apartments/rooms and a beautiful garden with pool. Delicious breakfast on the terrace with views in the garden and the Franschhoek mountains made our mornings!
We stayed only for two nights, but we will definitely come back as soon as possible!

Room Tip: all the same, no huge differences...

We visited South Africa in February 2013 and stayed at many hotels and bed and breakfasts. This was our least favourite. True , it is a beautiful place, but we didn't feel very welcome . My wife wrote a review previously, but I wanted to add my few words. Firstly our room, the manor suite lacked privacy. It was stunning though. We didn't feel we could sit outside our room at night as everywhere was locked. Nor did we feel welcome in the beautiful living room. On the last day I went to put our bags in the car before eight as we wanted to have an early start and leave immediately after the 8.30 breakfast . I met the owner when I was returning from the car and he seemed shocked that we would be up and about so early ! It was raining and Valentine's Day and we were not looking forward to the sparse communal breakfast. My wife went to pay the bill, but it had already been deducted from the card we used to pay the deposit. I thought that was a little cheeky, although when I read over their terms and conditions, it is clearly stated as their policy. This has NEVER happened anywhere else I have stayed ( world wide!!!!). We are planning our return visit to Franschhoek, but we will not stay here.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with privacy.

Wolfgang is a real thoughtful and attentive host - and his creative egg variations for breakfast are just delicious! We stayed for 1 week - and will definitely come back!

Just wonderful.... rooms, design, service, gardens, food, can't fault it. Sadly didn't meet Christina but Wolfgang was a courteous host and Cindy lovely. We liked the walk into town, some might not. We didn't mind the Black room being straight out onto the breakfast area, some might. Free bicycle hire a bonus, an awesome way to get round the vineyards. Such a quiet relaxing place, with lovely secluded seating in the grounds from peaceful times.
