Review of Genot Restaurant - CLOSED

Genot Restaurant
Price range: $1 - $25
Cuisines: Contemporary
Description: Come, relax and indulge in a Franschhoek restaurant like no other, namely Genot. This small indulgence (a literal translation of our name) is big on the delicate tastes of the Winelands, with a welcoming feel that relaxes you as you sit down for a glass of Klein Genot’s famous wines, harvested straight from the surrounding vineyards. Owners Joey and Angie Diamond were motivated by a desire to offer visitors to Klein Genot only the very best sensory and culinary experiences and have selected Chef Mark Radnay to run the estate's premier restaurant in Franschhoek.

Staying at Klein Genot we couldn't really miss out on eating at the attached, but quite separate restaurant, and we're glad we did too.

Décor at the restaurant was lovely, more like the sort of up-market place you’d find in fashionable parts of London and New York, than on a wine estate in the smallest of the major wineland towns.

The food was also excellent. The ostrich pasta was irrestible and it was lovely.

Service was high quality, and atmosphere formal(ish) but quiet.

Well worth the trip.

the official opening is next month (march 2009) so we were enjoying them practice, we think!

whatever, service was attentive (and plentiful), charming and good.

food was really very good, the eland steaks my husband and I went for were tasty, the pepper sauce very tasty and the vegies good. as the emal was not too big, there was room for the cheeseboard (for two)

- we were grateful we had passed on starters and dessert as the platter was enormous. there were four cheeses and two different breads plus a variety of chutneys and nuts (that had been roasted in some sort of hoiney and were totally wonderful)....and so good we had to be the first to review and say 'go - enjoy, its great'.

Views are lovely.

The inside of the restuarant is funky, attractive, and terribly well done.

This places deserves to be a huge hit for wedding receptions, big parties and for the tourist wanting something different from the main village offerings.....loved it!

Thank LumpyJ
