Dining options: Dinner, Late Night, Breakfast, Lunch, Reservations
Description: Based in the small village of Franschhoek in the Western Cape. Franschhoek is renowned world wide for Haut Cuisine and Fine Dining. Cafe des Arts is neither Haute Cuisine nor Fine Dining! Cafe des Arts is a simple, rustic, relaxed restaurant where all that matters is the food. There are no table cloths, no silver service and the food is from the pan to the plate. If you're lucky, you may even get some cutlery! -

The friendly and fast service is great. The ambience is wonderfully inspiring.... decor consists of Fine Art on the walls... freshly baked goods and breads at the entrance all make for an enjoyable experience.....Food and service is really good. I had a pasta which was more than adequate and well priced.

This place was recommended to us by our guesthouse so we decided to test (and taste) it. We were there for lunch, the place was half full, the service quick and polite. The choice is quite limited as it's changing every day and made with fresh products. the food we ordered was good (lamb livers and chicken risotto) and well priced. The wines were, for the area, quite expensive. When you go out, don't resist and buy a cinammon twist in their bakery, it tastes great. I would recommend this place for lunch, not for dinner.

Last Friday we attended the jazz and on site creation of a painting at CDA and it was awesome! The food, atmosphere, jazz and overall ambiance was 100% and all lovers of GOOD food should visit!

Chris and Louise rock, they run a restaurant that is off the main road. Look for the coffee shop called Essence (diagonally opposite the post office) and just after Essence (also a cool place to go) you will find a pathway with a stream on one side a green fence on the other. In the garden is a building next to the library where you can see Chris and Louise in action.

Cafe de Arts is not a fancy restaurant, but the food has always been consistently good. Their breakfast is excellent. Lunch is usually a subset of the dinner menu. The seasonal dinner menu has new items as well as consistent favorites.
On the downside, the presentation is usually less than pretty, but the ample sauces provided more than make up for it with their flavour.
When you're done with fancy and just want excellent food, come here.
