Stayed here for two nights. The least welcoming place in a 17 day visit to SA. Rooms were very big but no warmth in them, very corporate feel. We were supposed to have a garden view villa. We overlooked the car parks. At one point a car was parked 2 metres from our bedroom window. Ground floor rooms are one metre below ground level so very dark. Wouldn’t stay again. Dear Caroline

We value all comments and it is heartbreaking to have seen amazing reviews over a period of 6 months and then to receive your review.

It is even more heartbreaking after you wanted to book a unit at a 15% discount. As you are aware we have 5 type of units: 11 x lake view villas, 9 x mountain view villas, 5 x village view villas,1 x Studio and the 6 x chateau rooms. All these rooms come at different rates and you can choose a room that suite your individual requirements. As you were a family and wanted to stay in a more affordable unit you had to choose one of the village view villas. Of the 5 village view villas only two suite your requirement of 2 bedrooms. You mentioned that you were supposed to have a garden view villa. We don't have garden view villas and no where this is advertised.

The decision to stay in Villa 1, was based on providing you the most affordable option. I can understand that you would have preferred one of the villas with mountain or lake views. Your description of Villa 1 and the selective use of photos is unfortunate. In can understand that you were disappointed. I see that you also stayed in the V&A Waterfront and as you are aware the unit that you stayed in cost 4 times more than units that are not on the canal.

We hope you enjoyed the wine tour and special dinner booking, we arranged for you.

It is our 100% commitment to ensure that we have happy guest. We offer each guest the opportunity to choose villa accordingly to their budget.

I can fully recommend this chateau and villas. The rooms are amazing, with large lounge/kitchen, balcony, an enormous bedroom with en suite bathroom with views of the mountains. Breakfast is excellent, again with views of the lake and mountains, with outside seating if the weather is ok. The staff are very helpful and friendly and the manager was particularly helpful in resolving a booking mix up.

We had a wonderful stay at Lermitage, the staff were fantastic and the lady that welcomed us organized us a villa overlooking the lake, beautiful.
Although the weather was erratic ( normal Cape weather) , waking up in the morning to the
Beautiful view of the lake and mountain was awesome!
Breakfasts were good, although it did not vary much over the twelve days. The villa is lovely , although a little dark, loved the style and decor!
Nice and close to town and to the Framschoek pass , a visit to Haute Cabriere up the road is essential!
The manager Ilani was superb with attention to detail incredible, she is very hands on, even
Mmm delivered refreshments to us at 9pm!

My son and I stayed at L’ermitage in Franschhoek from NOVEMBER 27th to 29th 2019.
We were greeted warmly by Alison on Reception and documentation completion was done with little fuss and we were given the keys to Villa 14 within five minutes.
This particular villa has its own garage attached to the property.
It felt like we had a suite, with a full sized kitchen and comfortable lounge area within the same space.

The bedroom was luxurious and the sunken bath was a real feature of the room.
Storage space was superb and we liked the way we could light each section of the room,as appropriate. Villa 14 is lake facing and the fish are very entertaining to watch. Birds come and go and just add to the ambience of the accommodation.

The staff are very efficient and they always had time to talk. The chef works magic in the kitchen and you will not be disappointed with the food here.
The views that guests have from the most elegant dining room are stunning.
L’ermitage is very well managed and her attention to detail is to be commended.
It is a privilege to stay at this tranquil oasis just outside Franschhoek and I wold definitely return to it should I ever be back in this beautiful part of the world.

Room tip: Book ahead and get Villa14. The swimming area is twenty paces from the door.

This is a lovely accommodation option if you are visiting Franschhoek. We stayed in the main manor house and our room was massive, very comfortable and beautifully furnished. The only downside was the aircon was a little noisy.

Breakfast was very good and the the staff were so incredibly friendly.

For travellers who are not familiar with the area, it is important to note that this hotel is a little out of town, so you will not be able to walk to the shops and restaurants. But that is also an advantage because it is very peaceful and quiet.
