We try to go away into our magnificent country areas as often as we can, as the Cape has so much bounty to offer. We stay at really lovely places, but sometimes we go to somewhere so perfect, so beautiful and so peaceful that we never want to leave. Our life is not geared to a pursuit of luxury, but natural beauty and experience are what we love. When we were married, Lynne said she didn’t need a 5 star life, just no camping (she is an ex girl guide and back packed around Europe a lot so camping days are done), but our own bedroom and a bathroom in a clean and neat place would be fine. We love being able to sit outside when we are in the country and not confined to a room and we love observing nature. Last week, we visited Angala, a superb boutique hotel nestled under the beautiful Drakenstein mountains near Franschhoek and, when we arrived, we found one of those places. This place works seamlessly, guests' every wish or whim is catered for, before they think of it. We absolutely loved our stay.

Room Tip: Choose on of the rooms with a private balcony & garden

We were given the choice of several boutique lodges by our travel agent, and chose Angala based on the photos and reviews we read on-line; it was the absolute perfect choice to end our month long visit to Southern Africa, which included a 16 day safari in Botswana and 5 days in Cape Town, so we were ready to relax. At first we were a little disconcerted because Angala is "off the beaten path," but as soon as we walked up the steps and into the foyer we knew we were in the right place. I have traveled extensively and I think that Angala meets and exceeds many world-class hotels I've stayed in. It is a most serene place with amazing views and beautifully designed rooms with everything one could ask for. Everything is top quality. Our room like those next to us had its own private deck, yard and bench overlooking the little pond across the way. We loved the bathroom. Everything is of the best quality. We stayed for two nights and ate in the restaurant one of those nights - delicious meal. the breakfast was good quality. We will recommend it and hope to return. The staff was lovely.

Room Tip: We stayed in room #2, below the pool, and it looked like the others were just a lovely and quiet.

It is always a special treat to be surrounded by beauty, and Angala was one beautiful experience after another. Our suite was luxurious with excellent décor and attention to detail, which made me want to go home and redecorate immediately. A stunning bathroom, with a lovely touch of an outdoor patio and shower and sun loungers, a Nespresso machine in the sitting room with a well stocked mini bar, a private front patio overlooking our own garden and a bedroom with every comfort one could wish for. We thoroughly enjoyed the excellent buffet breakfast whilst sitting on a verandah overlooking the garden and the very special eco pool which fascinated us totally. Not only was it beautiful with lush plants, but an eco system that allows for no chemicals and is therefore a more holistic and pleasing experience to swim in it The staff were a lesson in what staff should be like. Attentive, friendly and so efficient but never intrusive. We enjoyed an excellent dinner one evening in the dining room and if asked, I would have to say that I could not suggest any improvement as it was a 100% satisfactory two day visit. Highly recommend it to restore equilibrium to ones life. We arrived tired and ratty and left being at peace with the world!

We had the most enjoyable family break at Angala recently. We booked three suites which were all equally as stunning so there was no fighting over the rooms! The surrounding are magical, looking over a well known wine estate with beautiful gardens and the more incredible eco-pool which was so peaceful to look over whilst reading on a plumped up deck-chair cushion.

There was so much attention to detail - you will want for nothing whilst staying there. The staff were friendly and always available but still gave you the feeling that you had the place to yourself. We had the pleasure of dining there one evening. The food and wines were excellent and the chef and staff were very friendly.

We had to force ourselves to leave Angala to explore the surrounds. The wine on the estate is fantastic with very well run tasting rooms. We also went for a hike up to Kanonkop early one morning which was worth the early wake-up.

I cannot sing their praises highly enough and will be back in August!

Room Tip: All the rooms are stunning - we had three ebtween us and they were all great.

From the moment we arrived i could feel my body relax. Tranquil atmosphere, luxurious rooms and knowledgable staff all contributed to a perfect holiday experience. Top class breakfast and dinner was a culinary delight. From relaxing next to that magnificent pool to sipping a hot Nesspresso on our private balcony I truly didn't want to leave. My family enjoyed an early morning hike, while I stayed and watched the sun come up in blissful silence. Angala staff also provided us with superb day trip suggestions. All in all we had a superb holiday and I highly recommend this destination.

My husband and I loved our stay at the Angala. It was like an oasis, with our room (room 3) having a very private balcony, looking out on flowers, a birdbath, a pond, and lots of beautiful birds. Plus, our room was very comfortable and attractive; I hardly wanted to leave our room.

We ate dinner there and it was delicious; loved the terrace for breakfast.

Can't say enough good things about this place!

Just be sure you have directions when driving there, as it can be difficult to find.

Room Tip: room 3 was very comfortable, spacious, quiet
