What a wonderful place. We stayed 2 nights for our 1 year anniversary and they went all out. Had a superb dinner, romantic turndown and the facilities are superb. Only one recomendation to. You are in prime wine country. Please improve on your wine list. Only 1 Sauvignon blanc and it was terrible.

Will definitely come again

In the middle of a vineyard, with superb views in all directions, this has to be the best get-away imaginable. Extremely comfortable and well placed either to enjoy the pool and the service or to explore Franschoek, Paarl and the neighbouring countryside. I don't believe there is another holiday spot like it.

Room Tip: The Luxury suites are superb. Very comfortable and everything provided. It is hard to make a choice a...

As you enter Vrede & Lust wine estate, you enter the portal to another world. Down this little narrow private road you meander through the vineyards, with the majesty of the mountains inviting you onwards. And finally you stop at the Cathbert. We were met with friendly faces who led us to our wonderful 'house' complete with verandah and little garden. Inside is very tastefully furnished sitting room with everything you would need, and a beautiful bedroom with crisp white bed linen. I can't imagine waking up anywhere nicer, with that view...I still look at the photos and imagine I'm back there......
The meals are a delicious. Breakfast is gorgeous with lots of fresh fruit and cooked options, all beautifully cooked. And dinner is a must!
Audrey was incredibly helpful with suggestions of how to spend our time, what wines to taste, and where to dine, I couldn't have asked for more.
Franschhoek and the surrounding area is great for wine tasting and fine dining, it has to be one of the best holidays I've ever had. I've been spoilt rotten!

I thought very hard wether to give this hotel 5 stars or none , because if I told the truth I might not have anywhere to stay next time as the Inn would be full and to be honest I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else.........
The Inn is at the end of a little private road nestled by craggy mountains with views over stunning vineyards , the main hotel building houses the restaurant and has verandas all around and anywhere you sit you have stunning views , peace and serenity. There are not many suites maybe 9 and ours was absolutely delightful with four poster with mosquito net (although I was not bitten once whilst in SA ) and huge living room with fridge and coffee making equipment large tv (which never was switched on)and all other necessities and a large round table to sit around with friends sampling the gorgeous wines of the Franschoek district,.
Then of course our hosts Aubrey and Ann what can I say both fantastic...Aubrey was always giving us fantastic advice about where to eat what were the best vineyards and was the life and soul of every evening meal prepared at the hotel.......and the meals mmmmmmmm ostrich and springbok were my favourites (with fantastic vegetarian options) tasted and were presented superbly. Breakfats consisted of fruit , mango papaya raspberry, and melon I could go on and on. (Well done Max the chef)
And finally I would recommend two things as a must ...one is to go with David on a tour of a SA township .... and you must eat a lunch at the Bread and Wine . Best wine Chocolate Block

We stayed at Cathbert for two nights - it was way too short a weekend. The rooms are clean and wonderfully decorated. They have a fireplace in the rooms as well, perfectly suited to the rainy weather we encountered over that particular weekend. Their breakfasts were fantastic. They served the fluffiest omlettes I've ever tasted. We also had their dinner one night. Perfect little four course meal for two. Our hostess was wonderful. She gave us plenty of advice on the various wine farms to visit. Cathbert is closely situated to attractions such as La Motte and the Motor Museum. It's a definite must-do again!

We had the good fortune again to stay for two weeks at Cathbert, our piece of heaven. Our stay this time, initially planned for one week, was amazingly able to be extended to two, allowing us the added luxury of having a week in their top suite, a real bonus. Their luxury suite for the first week we felt could not be surpassed, but their top suite was superb. The furnishings, the bathrooms in both are all top notch and the view from our luxury suite was an absolute picture postcard. The staff make you so welcome that it is even better than home. The food is magnificent and particularly the breakfasts are outstanding with a most amazing selection of fresh berries from Hillview Berry Farm round the corner. A short episode of toothache was even catered for with the staff arranging for my dental care! Certainly over the years we have visited Cathbert, the rooms have always exceeded our expectations with improvements year on year. The swimming pool was, as always, crystal blue and scrupulously clean. We fully intend to revisit our piece of heaven.

Room Tip: Go for the luxury suites at the front of Cathbert with your own secluded garden, balcony and the stu...
