“Lovely Wedding Anniversary”
Reviewed September 30, 2011

My wife and I had a very pleasant stay at Cathbert to celebrate our 19th wedding anniversary. All the people were very friendly and made our stay a very special one. The place has lovely well-maintained gardens and has a lovely view over the mountains. The breakfast was certainly a highlight; very relaxed on the balcony with high quality food and good service.
We expected more of the dinner however. It is a set menue and we felt rushed with the way the food was brought to our table from the one course to the next. Coffee was served while we were still busy with our last glass of wine. We were the only guests the specific night for dinner with all the others at a wedding. For the money spent one can do better at one of the many other restaurants in Paarl/Franschhoek/Stellenbosch.

Picturesque location, makes you wish your wife took pictures. Aubrey, our host, was welcoming and a great conversationalist that explained the region to us well.

The four course meal was definitely worth it.

Everything was great - from our arrival to the departure. The managing couple were great and knew us by name. They also put in extra effort to accommodate our whole family and the special welcome notes made us feel very special. The dinner cooked for us was superb and the steak was as soft as butter. Breakfast was very good and we were sorry to leave. But we will be back!!!

I had occasion to stay at Cathbert for one night for my father's 75th birthday, with the rest of my family (8 altogether). Suffice it to say that the owners went the extra mile for us, to make the event special for guests of all ages. The setting and drive to the venue is beautiful, and the accommodation is central to several wine farms and at least 2 highly rated restaurants within a very short drive. I would recommend this for those who want to explore the Winelands and Franschhoek valley, but would like a quiet, restful retreat.

Of the rooms we stayed in, they were all beautifully decorated and comfortable, 2 with fireplaces, and the other 2 with exceptional spa-like bathrooms with spectacular views from the bath. The rooms have TV and cable, there's a great pool, and the dinner was very nice. And everybody, from the owners to the wait staff, were consistently friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Of the suites, only 2 rooms have fireplaces; the other 2 have slightly nicer bathrooms, with VIP vie...

We recently spend a lovely winter’s weekend at Cathbert Country Inn. Everything from our initial interaction with Lynne to the breakfast, was worthy of 5 stars! If you are looking for somewhere to get away from it all and breathe fresh mountain air and experience some of the most amazing views of the Cape Vineyards, this is the place.
