We make a concerted effort to get to The Tasting Room at least once a year, and are never disappointed. Surprise 8 course menu is playful and creative, while remaining full of flavor and true to local ingredients. Presentation borders on art, with some of the most interesting platings I have ever encountered. Great wine pairings to complement each dish, supported by unpretentious and engaging front of house team.

“Sensational!! Best ever!”

Brillant 8 course meal. - takes you on a journey via your senses.
It's actually 11 courses if you include all the extra bits. Worth the visit at least once in your lifetime as it is pricey - but you'll understand why once you have experienced it!!

“Divine food that captures all your senses”
Reviewed July 19, 2014 via mobile

A friend had recommended eating here & we spent the last night of our 2 week road trip at LQF - we were not disappointed and recommend this as a special treat if visiting the Cape Town area. We went for the taster menu with matching wines and were wowed by the whole experience! Visually intriguing, tasty.... Each course was a surprise & the first four were the same & the second four they gave us different dishes (which we shared), along with matching wines..... quite sozzled by the end! We had multiple waiters who were lovely, I was worried it might be a bit stuffy but the staff were knowledgeable, approachable & we had laugh with them, which made the experience. Now when can I go back is the question - shame I live so far away!

“If you want to be wowed...!”
Reviewed July 18, 2014

My husband and I dined in the Tasting Room on the last evening of our three night stay at LQF and what a treat it was. We knew from the breakfasts and drinks at the bar that we would be in for something special and we were not disappointed.
We opted for the full surprise tasting menu along with wine pairing. Every course and every wine pairing was quite exceptional. The portion sizes for both the food and drink were generous for a tasting menu and we struggled to finish it all. The wine was so good that at first we drained each glass, but towards the end of the meal, we had to restrain ourselves to just a few sips to prevent being carried out!
All the waiting staff were extremely knowledgable and enthusiastic about the food. My only slight criticism is that because it's a surprise menu, they present you with a copy of the menu at the end of the meal. After a couple of cocktails and several glasses of wine, my retention of the food explanations reduced to zero, so it would have been nice to have had a written description of each course as it was served. That said, if you like beautifully prepared theatrical food, you have to give The Tasting Room a try.

“An Incredible and Interesting Experience”
Reviewed July 16, 2014

I ate here during the lead up to the recent 2014 Bastille Festival. I have to say it was very good. The food is very "Heston Blumenthal" like, its certainly one of those places that you should try at least once. The food is very spectacular and expertly prepared, and as I say it was a real experience. The waiters are very well informed, and clearly they love also to take part in the Theatre of the meal, sometimes it did get a little over bearing with all the explanations around each dish, but that is just a minor point. There was also an issue with a couple of waiters arguing in front of customers which they NEVER should do. Its not cheap by any means, but its an experience worth trying.
