We stopped here for a light lunch and were impressed with the quality of both our meals--handmade linguine and the daily soup. Service was prompt and polite. It's a great place to sit out on the patio and avail yourself of their extensive wine list. Only issue was that both of our meals were priced a bit high for the relatively small portions.

After a wobbly start with confusion over the booking, and a steak that was medium and not rare, I was very impressed with the service recovery from the Manager. The Duck was delicious.

this old establishment in franschhoek was a favourite, but recently seems to need a makover, interior shabby, food below par ,duck dry, veg barely cooked ,and oily chips.service certainly could be improved.because of its position in the main road ,it has all the advantages of great views ect .but the interior needs attention ,and the food menu a revamp, with management around.

Dear Michael Hilton

I was disappointed to read your recent review of our restaurant on Trip Advisor. We have a good record on the forum and one which we work hard on to maintain. Firstly, let me apologise that your meal and experience was not up to standard. I’m not sure if you complained on the night about your food or whether you were checked on by management, but I would be interested to hear more from you at the e-mail address listed below. We redid the interior at the restaurant about 1 ½ years ago at significant expense, which included new light fittings, blinds, painting, loos, closing in the back outside section, a second fire place, new chairs and benches, new signage, a new bar and reception counter. Certain sections were painted as little as 6 months ago and being and old building, we do ongoing maintenance. We are also in the process steam cleaning the benches, but have to await warmer weather so that they can dry. The food menu has remained largely the same since the restaurants inception, mainly due to most customers not wanting us to take off their favourite dishes, for which we have become known for. We do make small changes several times a year and change specials daily to make sure there is always a good selection of other dishes in addition to our regular extensive menu. Please make contact me on the e mail address below so I can get a better understanding of your experience. Once again my apologies.

Regards

Matthew Gordon

We tried this restaurant on recommendation from our hotel manager. It was a cold rainy evening and there was a fire going to keep the place warm and welcoming. We tried the winter menu (2 courses) which comprised of a starter and main or main and desert. There were 4 adults in our party and all meals were excellent. The selection catered for all tastes. Food was delicious. The staff were attentive and an enjoyable evening was had by all.

Freezing winter night so enjoyed the warm and friendly atmosphere.
This is not haute cuisine but beautifully cooked and generous portions. At our table moulles frittes, crispy duck, pork rib, tempura prawns and good pasta. All excellent. Good wine list which is not overpriced.
The staff were all very friendly, knowledgable and unobtrusively attentive.
I am going back in summer fora long lunch.
