They don't have the pretension of many Franschoek restaurants but they serve good bistro style food which is top drawer and very reasonable .

We requested an outside table and they couldn't do it when we arrived, we accepted an inside table but after ordering wine and before ordering food the found us an outside table.

Service was good and we enjoyed the lovely warm evening.

I have been eating at French Connection for a number of years and on most occasions it’s been wonderful. But on Friday 15 March 2013 what happened, I had guests from London and the staff thought they were doing you a favour by serving you, not a smile to be found, the service was appalling and the food even worse. French Connection won’t be seen me again.
Restaurants seem to forget there is a lot of choice, the service is what keeps their jobs and the doors open. Its fine when a person is a bit off but when all the staff had an attitude that’s something else.

The evening was cool, the sun was setting and an old and dear colleague had booked us a table on the step (schtupe?). We drank wine, we talked about old times, we drank more wine and the staff were patient and not pushy as we drank through their wine cellar!

The charcuterie board was massive, no I exaggerate not, colossal to the extent that we saved half of it for the cheese board at the end! The steaks were monumental, succulent, beautifully cooked and worth flying twelve hours to eat them.

We had pudding wine, we had port with the cheese, we consumed three bottles of fine South African wine (the Sauvignon Blanc) is a favourite and the Pinot Noir is robust but not too over-powering. We ate until we were fit to bust, if there was a drink we missed then who knows what it could have been. The bill was under £100 for the three of us and that dear reader is truly amazing for a meal of this quality in a little part of paradise. The staff were lovely, full marks to you and I hope my tip was nothing short of generous because you deserved it..

In contrast with the pick-nick in Boschendal is this a restaurant with a really nice atmosphere, good food and wine. If the weather is good, try to sit outside and enjoy the small, lovely village of Franschhoek

This is the "go to" place in Franschhoek for consistently good food and service, casual, friendly and relaxed.
