“lovely food in a beautiful setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2009

We stumbled upon this place just before they were closing for lunch. The service was excellent and accommodating, the food fresh and nicely prepared and the tasting wines ( a selection of 3) made an ideal accompaniment to the meal.

“Worth the detour for a wholesome light lunch.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 4, 2009

Bread and Wine is one of our favourite spots for lunch in the Franschhoek Valley. It is situated on the Moreson Farm down a country road just a couple of miles outside Franschhoek town. The restaurant's tables are situated outdoors in a shaded courtyard just behind their farm shop.
The food is simple and unpretentious. Fresh bread, local cheeses, charcuterie and salads are the order of the day. The food is tasty and wholesome.
We have always found the staff to be efficient and pleasant.
In high season, be sure to book a table in advance if you want to be seated in the main part of the restaurant.

“An excellent light lunch in a beautiful setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 31, 2009

We had a lovely outdoor lunch at Bread and Wine with just the right amount of food (not too heavy) and shared a white wine flight. Service was very good too. We did a little "grocery shopping" in their store too - which was great until we realized afterwards how much we overpaid. Still, we enjoyed our experience there.

“All that's bad about service”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 14, 2009

This was the second time we had been to Bread & Wine. The first was special and we looked forward to our return. All but one of the tables was in shade, and there was a cold breeze.Despite numerous requests to move our table either into the sun or the protected courtyard,we were told "No" by the waiters and when asked why, were told that it was on instruction of management. As South Africans in the hospitality industry we were embarrassed that foreign visitors were also treated with absolute disdain - take it or leave it.When I asked to speak to the manager she too was ineffectual and disinterested - a bad experience clouding what could have been another enjoyable afternoon in the sun with good food and wine - unfortunately they still have to learn that service forms part of the total package

“Wonderful atmosphere and a lunch so good it hurts”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 23, 2009

Best meal in Fransschoek was our lunch menu at Bread and Wine. Beautiful setting, great service. The risotto was suberb and the cold cut meats likewise. The wines we drank was also perfect (go wild and take the most "expensive" glass) it was worth it. Beware though.. we had dinner at Le Quartier Français the same evening but we were almost to full since the lunch was so massively good. The suberb Bread and wine lunch is not to be missed but be sure to book in advance.
