“Great location but overpriced and rundown”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 9, 2011

The location is awesome...just a couple of streets back from the centre of town. The decor inside the place is very old and the lounge consisted of a few very old chairs and an old tv in the corner...no heater or fireplace. The bedroom was very basic but warm and clean. The shared bathroom could have been cleaner. Also when we stayed there a large group of more permanent residents made a huge amount of noise in the shared lounge most of the night!

I was part of a group of 25 South Africans who stayed here over a long weekend. The venue was superb! The rooms were clean and are furnished with comfortable beds, clean linen and fun blankets. The towels were thick and of good quality. The showers were spotless with plenty of hot water. Our group took over the large kitchen and excellent facilities - huge pots, pans, ovens, cutlery and crockery, etc. The dining room was clean and neat; the lounge offers DSTV and internet. The outside lapa or boma is a bonus and adds atmosphere. It was stacked with wood. It is within walking distance to the delights of the main street in Franschhoek. Marvellous stay, lots of fun, and the hosts were very accommodating. I will be back!

Historic and unique. I've stayed in hostels and Guest houses throughout Europe but this ranks as one of the more unique and wonderful stays I've ever had. It is also located in the lovely village of Franschhoek with lots of great eateries and vineyards close by. Great value for the money, even during world cup.

Clive, Marlene and Robyn Alexander are wonderful hosts who made our stay at the Franschhoek Traveller's Lodge an enjoyable experience. They certainly go the extra mile to accomodate their guests. Thankyou so much!

In a place like Franschhoek where it's almost impossible to find budget lodging, you don't expect too much of a cheap hostel. However, Clive and his wife were beyond excellent hosts for us! Picked us up from Cape Town, dropped us of at the airport, arranged nice trips to the countryside and told us loads of history about South Africa! Only for the history, it's worth a trip in the car with Clive! The best value for money, and great service! Loved it!

We very much enjoyed our stay here. Clive and Marlene were very friendly and offered excellent local tourist info. This historical building is in a perfect location for the town centre. Our room was spotless and recently decorated. I slept like a baby in a comfy bed with crisp clean linen. The bathroom was a few metres down the corridor, although no frills, everything was very clean and the showers worked well. We'd left a bottle of wine and lots of sports drinks in the communal fridge for a couple of days ...all untouched on return. If you're not after luxury, stay here as it's safe, quiet and clean.
