If you really want a break away from the hustle and bustle of the town then Khamkirri is the place to visit. My wife and i arrived there unexpectedly and enquired as to available accomodation. We recieved a warm welcome and opted for the Luxuary Tents 4. It is lovely accomodation that offers all the comforts of home and yet still gives you the bushveld feel as you relax and overlook the majestic Orange River and the picturesque sunset it offers at dusk.
The river rafting is a definate must. We were spoken into it by a couple who chickened out on the 3 hr trip and opted for the 45 min one rather. Their loss as my wife and i joined the Evans Family from KZN with the Olympic Canoeist Master and his young protege Charles as they guided us from 9km up the river, through rapids and placids back down to Khamkirri. An experience i would gladly take again. The Ribs and Steak are definates musts to enjoy here as they serve lovely meals.
We unfortunately had to shorten our stay here as we wanted to see the Falls which is approximately 45min to 1hrs drive from Khamkirri and yet only 10km downstream.
Not all is perfect so the down side was that the geyser was not switched on and the water supply was low if not non existent at our tent.
The staff are really professional and eager to please as their hearts are invested into making Khamkirri a success. In their defence too i would say that had we pre-booked we would be sure to have had every comfort sorted out before our arrival.
Well done guys your place is spectacular.
