Our first experience of a camp in Kwa Zulu Natal and we were blown away by the setting. Staff were slightly offhand at the desk.

We stayed for 2 nights. We arrived after 18.00 hrs. Everything was ok. A very nice clean chalet and a marvelous sight.

Giants Castle is spectacular and well worth hopping off the beaten track. We spent a couple of nights in a mountain view chalet with amazing views - well worth requesting this because we did notice that many of the chalets face each other, rather than the mountains. We visited out of season at the very end of South African winter and it was wonderful nonetheless. Our chalet was roomy, clean and well maintained, although there were aspects that were a touch dated. We didn't eat in the restaurant so cannot comment on that. It was a joy to warm the place up using the wood stove; very cosy. I was grateful for a previous reviewer's comments about the baboon, making me slightly less phased when a large hairy chap attempted to raid our chalet. Keep the sliding doors locked. He had three goes at getting in, putting his feet against the door jam for extra leverage! A magical place.

Our chalet was excellent - clean, comfortable, quiet, peaceful. It is a lovely development - very sympathetic to the location. We found the food in the resteraunt quite nice insofar as it went , but the choice was very limited and was the same every night. We both also for the first time in our lives returned the glasses of white wine we ordered. I agree that the World's view walk is well worth it, but the rock paintings are a real let down - you can really hardly see them - but the walk up to them and back was very pleasant. Some of the other walks are not so spectacular. Some of the chalets have great views (another couple invited us back to theirs for wine and a chat) so it might be worth asking for one with a nice view when booking.

We used the N3 route as advised turning off at Mooi River then followed the signs along tarred roads if quite pothold in places. The scenery was outstanding every turn a new vista. Arriving at the main gate we booked in then drove the 7 kilometres to the camp site.

The office is in the curio shop again very friendly and very efficient. just a few checks then the welcome pack and directions to our chalet. We had been booked into the honeymoon suit with 4 post bed and all the facilities required. The only item that was not mentioned was that the baboons were able to open sliding doors! Which gave us a little concern when, whilst taking a nap following a walk we were woken by a large baboon leaving the chalet with a foil packet of tea bags!

The view from the balcony of our chalet were stunning dawn comes quickly over the hill behind the camp and illuminating the hill in the valley .

There is a sign in the car park "Main Caves" We were advised that this was one of the recommended walks the information indicated a walk of about 45 minutes but that did not seem to take into account the changes in landscape or the altitude we seemed to be climbing and decending. The terain changed from open savanah to thick forest we crossed th Bushman river and climbed up to the cave site where there were 2 areas with paintings on the cave walls and ceiling. Very much well worth all the extra exercise.

The food at the camp's Izimbali restaurant is cooked to order and very tasty. They do a full English breakfast again cooked to order.

All in all a great couple of days rest and relaxation in a wonderful environment and very friendly staff.

We stayed in a lovely little self-catering chalet in Giant's Castle for 3 nights in May 08. The walking is excellent in the area with a small map of day walks provided to each guest. Would definitely recommend the World's View walk.

The mountain view chalets have fantastic views of Giant's Castle and are very peaceful. The garden chalets are exactly the same but are generally closer together and don't have quite such great views.

The chalets are small but do the job. (They are smaller than the 2 bed Thendele ones). Would definitely recommend self-catering because the food in the restaurant is pretty dire, particularly if you're a veggie like me!

Beware of the baboons - keep the doors closed at all times!!
