Unfortunately we didn't get the same chalets as the previous occasion. Despite having booked months beforehand, they were unable to allocate a room and even kept my sister waiting until 14.00 to enter when the chalets must have been clean. These chalets have also become rather expensive over the years. Nonetheless, the location is wonderful, and you can go on fantastic walks and eat either in the restaurant (not bad) or have braai's (BBQ), all fantastic. Take your own food etc as it is very pricey at the small store. It's also probably a good idea, in winter, to take some of your own wood for the wood burning fires if you are staying more than a night. It's pretty cold (very!) at night in winter, but potentially wonderful during the day. The type of place that one feels, as a writer, you'd like to hang out in. Make sure you get a chalet that has a potential view. They do occasionally have local dance groups coming in to dance, it's a shame they don't advertise them more so that local people could make more out of tourism.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a chalet with a view if possible...probably one of the more expensive chalets as s...

Located at the end of a long road (gate locked after 7 pm so plan your arrival) MOST of this camp's chalets are perched on the side of a lovely deep valley with terrific views -- be sure to get a view unit! -- #39 and #40 at the end of the road are excellent. We watched eland wander along the banks of the creek from our private porch. Some food servers very friendly, other staff very cold but food in general was good and dining room terrace is quite pleasant. Had a problem arriving in the dark without any clue where our assigned chalet was located, but once found, it was fantastic with a sunny kitchen with utensils, stove top, microwave and refrigerator -- could easily have cooked if we'd had the groceries. Hike to Main Caves was fantastic. Many good hikes in the area -- worth several days' stay. Look for the hyrax!

Room Tip: Some chalets have no view at all which would greatly diminish the enjoyment. Be sure to get one ove...

Spacious chalets in a lovely setting up in the Drakensbergen. The chalets are self-catering and have all the utensils you might need. Reception staff was a mixed bag during our stay. A smile often seemed to be optional. The location and the wonderful views more than make up for this though.

We were there during a quiet period. I can, however, see that during busy periods when all of the chalets are occupied, that the spacing of the cabins could pose a problem. It would have been nicer if the cabins would be spaced out a bit more.

The park is a great place to get away from it all. It's relaxing and so peaceful - just watch out for the potholes on route! We stayed in a chalet with a mountain view - chalets further down faced each other or bushes so definitely opt for a mountain view.
The chalet was open plan and really nice but it did smell of damp - this improved a bit once we aired it. It was self catering and we BBQ'd most nights, no oven inside just hobs and a microwave.
The walking routes are fantastic and the scenery - especially on the World's View, is some of the best I have ever seen. Lots of wildlife around - birds and baboons mostly!
I agree with comments about the staff - they always seemed surprised when we turned up at the desk, we had to work hard to get information about the vulture hide.
The restaurant was ok and the service was friendly.
This is all about the location and hiking routes. I really enjoyed our three nights here and wish I lived in South Africa so it could be a weekend retreat!

The park nestled in the mountains. We had a selfcatering chalet with a great view. It was cleaned very well.
Breakfast and diner we had in the restaurant. The food was average.
The reception staff could more enthosiaster. They gave no more information than needed. They were more concerned with themselves.
The walk to the cave was beautiful and the paintings were amazing.

Our first experience of a camp in Kwa Zulu Natal and we were blown away by the setting. Staff were slightly offhand at the desk.
