Very good place to stay very relaxing . Would have liked to have stayed longer than 2 nights. The chalet was very comfortable . everything was provided that we needed for a comfortable stay . Fishing was good . And the swimming pool was massive and we almost had it to ourselves . Would like to return for a longer stay

The resort has chalets and superb caravan facilities. The staff is professional and friendly. You have two choices for caravans..usual sites an luxury ones..your own private bath an kitchen. The usual sites are lovely near the dam and good clean ablutions..free laundry and various great things to do. Very affordable and super restaurant. Loved it!!

Instead of stopping at Colesberg en route to Johannesburg we decided to stay at Gariep Dam. We were in a 2 bedroom unit (double bed, 3 single beds). The unit was a fair size, albeit somewhat dated (on a positive note, there was air conditioning and 1L of bottled water). With two littles (age 1 and 3) we weren't able to walk to the pool, but we drove down and parked there. It was about 4pm on a Sunday and the Kiosk at the pool wasn't open so we couldn't buy a juice. The main pool is huge - fairly good condition, but quite a bit of debris at the bottom (leaves, twigs, etc). The attached kiddies pool was also nice - but the tiles needed to be cleaned and there was some litter floating on the surface. There are plenty of trees offering shade. The wooden kids play equipment is a bit tired and needs to be looked at (a few missing planks, some loose bits of wood, etc). The restaurant was open, and despite how it looked, the food really was good quality (we had grilled chicken burgers). I was a bit disappointed that the units weren't really 'on the dam' (well, ours wasn't). It does offer an alternative to Colesberg, and for what you pay, it does offer comfortable, affordable overnight lodging.

Not a day visitor friendly resort. The views from the dam wall is a must see, but dont book any accomodation in area, try colesberg in stead for a sleep over for a halfway stop. Be prepared if you have booked a self service accomodation as you wont find great shops in area.

We stayed in the Club section that has its own garden with an uninterrupted view of Gariep Dam at the end of it. The Chalet had 2 bedrooms, space for 1 person in the lounge AND an air conditioner which was a very welcome surprise! It was just under 40 C the day we got there.

The self catering chalet was just fine and the grounds meticulously cared for. Generally there is a lot that makes up the infrastructure of this resort with pools, restaurants, bar, camping etc etc. You get the impression that everything works like clockwork and every body who works there knows what they are supposed to do.

In fact, we were so happy with Gariep Resort that we made the unprecedented decision to stay an extra day next time we go down to the Cape. There is a lot to do here as opposed to most of the other places in the area that make Colesburg and its surrounds soooo boring.

Its the best of all the places we have stayed at in the past and will definitely see us on their "regulars" list in future.

In terms of value for money, Gariep Dam, Club section is top of our Colesburg and surrounds list.

Try it and see for yourself!
