We did not stay at the Hotel as the rates were not compeitive! However we had dinner in the restaurant! It had to be one of the worst meals i have had for a long time. I had the lamb curry and returned it as there were more bones on the plate than Lamb. The vegetables were overcooked! I then ordered Kingklip fish! Again it was overcooked! It is a great pity as it is a lovely hotel in a great position overlooking the dam. The staff could not have been nicer but when I asked to see the manager in charge it happened to be his night off!

Stayed twice on our way between Johannesburg and Cape Town and return. Great location, overlooking the dam.. almost too modern but neat, with lots of space - largest rooms I've seen for a while. All with concrete floors, large showers, etc. But do book a superior room (it is only 10% more expensive), or you look out at car park (the standard room on our way back was a true disappointment, after staying in superior room two weeks before).
Admin is really not up to standard - wrote and called many times to try and book, eventually got someone on the line, my bank transfer deposit got auto-returned so had to send credit card details. My booking was safe though all the time, although being a European traveller it makes one nervous not to have the confirmation as such.
On the other hand - my impression was that the staff is really friendly, helpful and willing, simply not trained properly.
Breakfast is not included in the price and was simply too slow, especially if you trying to get back onto the road. I suggest have a coffee in the room, have a cereal bar to get going and pick up something on the way.
Dinner was great, both springbok and lamb were delicious.

Room Tip: Make sure you have a room with a view, i.e., a superior room. The standard rooms are only a 100R (10Euros) cheaper, still over R1000 (100 Euros) and you look at carpark!! Don't expose yourself to such disappointment.

After a long drive from Franschhoek this has been a lovely stay on our way to Pretoria. Very tired and very hungry this hotel was perfect. Clean room, great service and a very good restaurant. We had a lovely dinner and excellent service from Vuyo/ barman. The rooms might be a little bit too expensive.... (only negative point), but if you are looking for a great stop over that is not your typical farm questhouse and you are not too critical, this is the place for you. We will be back.

Reception staff with booking incompetent, had to phone days later to confirm booking and ask for paperwork. Rooms unsuitable for small children with high floor to celing windows and no bath and very slippery floors. Waiter cannot write nor knows menu and got bill completely wrong ... twice. No towels for pool as they run out after a couple of guests. Battles to retrieve paperwork re payments. All in all not my best experience. Menu is also totally iverpriced for what you get in comparison to orher 4 star establishments.

Second time I stayed overnight at this hotel. Had two rooms for my family of five - more than enough space as all rooms have twin Queen size beds - had a fantastic view over the Gariep Dam. Dinner is served from 18h00 and although not a big menu the food is great. Will recommend this hotel to anyone and have so before.
