“Somewhat outdated accommodation”

The chalets have a nice view from the terrace. We were lucky to see 34 elephants to pass by our terrace. The chalets are comfortable but outdated. Refurbishment should be done soon to keep up with tourist standards. Comfortable beds an enough space.

Hapoor restaurant is general tourist quality. Every where else in S.A. she had better food for better prices. Don't count on the general store for your groceries. Choice is limited and stock even smaller! Buy your food before you go to Addo instead!

We booked a roundavel, which had a great view of a water hole. We could see the animals from our terrace. Braai next to the terrace.
Communal kitchen, where every roundavel has its own dishes, cooking plates etc.
Very well organised, overall great and clean accomodation.
1 min drive from the game area gate.

Room Tip: Every roundavel is great.

Don't be put off that this is run by the National Park itself and might be a bit institutional. We had pleasant accommodation in one of those traditional round-shaped chalets; OK it's not luxurious but offers pretty good value. We also ate in the restaurant, which again proved better than you might expect. I would recommend both.

Room Tip: The little round chalets are fun

I am not fond of the word ‘camp’ for it is synonymous with rustic, simple basic facilitates and very often camp is used to camouflage lack of basic amenities. Don’t be mislead, this is no rustic camp, but, a bunch of amazing cottages with lovely facilities (swimming pool, private bbq area, hot water, kitchenette, fridge, coffee/tea, room heater, TV, Aircon, cutlery, Micro etc..). When I entered the Addo rest camp, it struck me as dry, boring and ‘in the middle of no where’ kind of resort. However in two days I experienced so much here that I was sad to leave. The birds were a bird watchers delight, the flora and wild life were a treat to nature lovers and photographers. The weather and lighting changed so many times, and I never got bored of the view from my room. This place is right in the middle of the jungle crawling with wild animals. But, the camp is in a fenced area, and a check post to prevent wild animals from coming in, and this is comforting.
There is a central reception and restaurant; all the cottages are spread very wide apart. If you are in a group, you must insist on adjacent cottages. This is important since the mobile signals are erratic and there are no phones or intercoms in the cottages. Some of the bigger rooms have air conditioning and a bath tub and the smaller ones don’t. To compensate the smaller ones have a TV. Also carry a torch with you since stepping out in the dark is dangerous.
There is an interesting shop that is well stocked, and you can pretty much buy most of the things you want here (snacks, basic cosmetics, soft drinks, clothes and souvenirs). Most cottages have a private BBQ area and you can buy meat and fire wood in the same shop. There is a water hole in front of the resort and animals visit this spot and this is a good spot to sip a whisky around sunset in the pretence of watching wildlife.
The restaurant is my favourite and serves all kinds of meat – Kudu, ostrich, warthogs etc. If you are into game meat you will love it. The day safari in the mornings were unbelievable cold – check the weather with the staff and carry blankets too and you will thank me. If you go on a night safari be aware that the restaurant would be closed when you get back. Suggest you order take away before you leave on the safari, and collect it when you get back.
An amazing place from where one can explore the abundant pleasures that Addo has to offer. Highly recommended of course !

On the way from the reception to our cottage was thinking about the distance we had to walk to anything nearby(reception, restaurant, etc.). My trepidations were sent to the back on entering the cottage. Basic but one of the most charming places that I have stayed in.
The designing was very eclectic African and the view from the bed was spectacular.
You can start your morning with a 180 degrees view of lush forests with birds chirping and Zebras grazing. Bathrooms were spic and span with minimal toiletries.Rooms also equipped to cook yourself with a fridge, oven, cook top, utensils and a small table not to mention the open Barbeque area and unit to the side of the entrance and a lovely balcony over looking the bushes.
Breakfast spread was pretty good considering the remoteness of the lodge. The safari and knowledge of the guides was up to the mark and menu on the restaurant for dinner was also good. You will have to learn to be patient though as nothing here happens in a hurry. Mixed staff, some very affable and some sombre.
Definitely a great experience on the fringe of the forest.

Room Tip: The 2 bed Chalets are very good and situated a little higher up.

The Addo Elephant park is great. We went in September and all the elephants and other wildlife walking amidst the flowers was really special. We planned to stay 2 nights but extended our stay with a 3rd nights because we enjoyed it so much.

As some of the rooms were already booked we needed to stay at three different places: one night in the rondavels (great view!), one night in the forest cabins (basic but romantic) and one night in a chalet (spacious). We liked all three of those. Restaurant was ok, but nothing special and we decided to use the braais to make our own diner, great!! If possible, stock up with some food for breakfast, lunch and diner in a supermarket outside the park as we found the choice in the supermarket a bit limited.

Very enjoyable time, lots of wildlife (especially elephants of course, but also lots of other animals) and beautiful scenery.

We booked 2 rondavels, 4 and 5. at nr 4, you have a tree that was in front of the house so it was difficult to see the animals from the balcony.
We had dinner/breakfast at the cafetaria, witch was very ok for us.
also enjoyed some time at the swimming pool.
Booking was easy with sanparks.
