This really is a wonderful stop, well worth it, infact we could have spent another night easily. We had a chalet #16 overlooking the park. Stunning view, the chalet was really very very nice, lovely rooms, very cosy atmosphere. The park has a restaurant and shops etc which served great food. The actual park was great saw soooo many elephant and further south even saw a lioness. Great stop.

Room Tip: Loved # 16

Safari tents are the way to go. Great view of the water hole at night. Amazing experience overall.

Room Tip: Tent one has better view of water hole at night.

We stayed for 2 nights in one of the six rondavels that overlook a floodlit watering hole (number 2, the one we were in, has the best position!) and it was such a privilege to see a black rhino, elephants, warthogs and a herd of bufffalo there at various points during our stay. This is the benefit of actually staying in Addo itself....we saw the game when the park gates were closed and were amazed to see that the rhino came to us when we knew that they had been elusive throughout Addo (and it is enormous!) for a few days!
The facilities are fine - we enjoyed a break from B+Bs, did some simple meals in the shared kitchen which is set up really well (though there is no grill) and swam in the pool there.
As for the game drives - we opted to book a sunset and sunrise drive after taking advice that during the heat of the day the animals are more elusive, so it may not be worth paying for a drive then, or, in the case of the elephants, they are gathered at particlar watering holes so its easy to drive there in your own car. This worked really well for us and we enjoyed our two days here very much indeed. We counted over 60 elephants drinking / showering / playing / bathing at one watering hole in the north of the park one lunchtime. Wonderful!

we stayed in the Domkrag villa, a 2 bedroom apartment with a terrace over looking 3 waterholes. It had a Braai. The rooms are a bit vetuste, but still comfortable and tastefully decorated with an African jungle theme.

The main advantage here is to be able to see the animals come down to the waterhole, which they do with more frequency when it get's hot. We even saw 2 rhinos, and that's very rare. On the park they will not give any information about where Rhinos might be, nor where they might be found.

if you are going to stay here, bring your own food, because the park shop has only a limted choice of food, and the park restaurant is hardly better than fast food, which is a shame because the setting is faboulous.

There are other restaurants a short drive away, but not many and the good one(s) is/are expensive.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a waterhole view

We stayed in one of the forest cabins at Addo's main rest camp for one night.
Lovely, charming cabins set in privacy among trees and shrubs. Our 4-bed cabin was well equipped with a very clean shower and toilet, wooden beam walls, exposed wood ceiling and floors... comes with cooking supplies, dishes, a picnic table, toaster and electric kettle. Towels and linens are supplied as well. The communal kitchen has several electric burners, a microwave and two sinks. Each cabin has its own fridge, outdoor patio and seating area facing the bush. It's magical to be in Addo after dark – we sat outside for a while and heard elephants, lions and hyenas, and my husband saw a rare black rhino with its baby at the watering hole! The stars are amazing and the atmosphere is unforgettable.

We spent two nights here in a rondavel overlooking the waterhole. The accommodation, although fairly small and basic was comfortable and it was nice to spend the evenings on the terrace watching for animals coming to drink. There were kitchen facilities to cook in but the shop only sells a small amount of basic foods and you should take food with you if you intend cooking during your stay. (Note that you are not allowed to take citrus fruit into the park.) There is a restaurant on site but think motorway service station standard of food with waiter service.
