“Colchester Gate Entrance”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 7, 2012

We where given a good tip on our resent visit to Addo Elephant Park - GO IN AT THE COLCHESTER GATE !! you get to drive through the park to the main gate area - so you see so much more off the park , we saw lots of wild life and scenery as we drove and there are several routes to drive and a water hole . We also went on a night drive which was great made by extra special by the guide who was great ! Not so inpressed by the food at the main restaurant or the staff/service very indiffrent to us .
But all together a wonerful experince loved it !

“Great to see elephants!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 6, 2012

We had to look for them for like 30 minutes, but we found a 25 elephant family! The get very close to the van, but seem to be used to it, and aren't agressive at all. The shop had many options of gifts at reasonable prices

“Always Happy To Visit Addo”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

We have visited Addo 5 times & always been fortunate to have excellent animal viewings. We always drive ourselves & you can have a great experience without 4 x 4's or paying extra for guided game drives. Our last visit enabled us to see the largest herds of elephant we have ever witnessed since visiting the Savutti - Chobe region of Botswana. On all occasions except our most recent visit we have found lions. Other than doing a "proper safari" i.e. self drive 4 x 4's thru Africa this provides enough exhilaration & satisfaction. We always try to stay in the rondavel accommodation at the main Rest Camp....they are directly in front of a water hole & almost always provides plenty of action while you have your sundowners on your stoop (deck) with many animals making their last visit of the day....we were privileged this last visit to see rhinos there. We will go back again for sure

“Elephants or none”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

The Addo Elephant National Park is one of the South African National Parks (SAMParks). The Park has recently opened a huge new section that has wonderful and exciting, yet easily manageable, (dirt) roads. The new (south) entrance to the Park is near a small settlement called Colchester that is about 50km from Port Elizabeth. I would suggest this entrance over the main camp entrance.

My experience of Addo is that one either sees hundreds of elephants --- or none. I haven't worked out why! Time of year / month / day seems to make no difference! But the experience of the Park, the other animals and birds, combined with the wonderful picnic area and the camp area make it all worthwhile. Slow down and enjoy the experience!!!!!! The accommodation is clean and comfortable and gives a wonderful African experience. The fited (Safari) tents are an excellent and safe way to enjoy the bush. Addo can be quite hot in the summer months, so when you hire a car make sure it has air conditioning!!!!!

Remember that over and above the accommodation costs that there is a daily conservation fee.

Have a look at the SANParks website.

“Bush trip after the rains”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

Always enjoy getting close up to the game.Did not see many elephants but plenty buffallo. Bush is well grown so viewing was difficult in quiet areas. Good to have other eyes close by. Dont go just for the elephant ,theres plenty of other species to enjoy. roads were good despite very heavy rains in the Eastern Cape. If your in your car ,theres a new picnic area with braai facililties--very clean
