Adventurer Oceanfront Inn

Reviewed October 4, 2012

Our family has visited Wildwood several times over the past 40 years. This was the first time that we made our reservation at the Adventurer. Even though it was just the two of us, we did want a two-room, oceanview suite as we enjoy the fact that we actually have a separate place to watch television and eat...no longer trying to do all that while sitting on a bed. The suite was quite spacious and it was equipped with two televisions; however, the television in the living room was a small flat screen that was mounted in the corner above the couch. You either had to lie on the couch or sit at the dinette table to watch it. You needed to turn the sound up as it was a little difficult to hear when the air conditioning would come on. Therefore, it became the battle of the televisions...one in the living area and the other in the bedroom. Even though there is a partition dividing the rooms, there is an opening above the partition that still allows sounds to go between the rooms.

The private balcony faced the south end of the boardwalk. There were no issues as far as noise. Two chairs are provided on the balcony; however, the one chair needed to be moved away from the in-wall a/c unit as a lot of heat was generated and it was not comfortable to sit in front of the unit.

This is an ocean-front Inn; however, due to Mother Nature, the beach is getting bigger every year while the ocean water goes farther out. No longer is the water under the piers. We are fairly brisk walkers, and it took nine (9) minutes to walk from the Inn to the ocean. Yes, there is nothing you can do about that but find nature truly amazing!

We, too, used the steps more than the elevator. Patience is a must if you wish to wait for the elevator.

The hallways in the Adventurer seem dim. Perhaps it is the paint color and the dark carpet. They are, however, clean.

The bathroom was small, but all older establishments in this doo-wop era town weren't built with the 21st century in mind. The larger-tile drop ceiling in the bathroom could be updated.

The housekeeping staff kept our suite nicely prepared. Clean towels were always provided, even if we had our used towels folded and placed on the towel rack.

The furniture within the suite was okay. A couch and a chair were provided in the living room, while a small dinette table with chairs in the dining area. We did have to relocate the chair as it sat directly in front of the a/c unit. It got quite chilly! Yes, we could have turned off the a/c, but the bedroom area would get warm if the air was not running almost the entire time. The ceiling fan in the bedroom did keep the air circulating nicely.

Parking was never a problem. There is parking also available under the Adventurer.

We only stayed here for three days, so we were not able to take advantage of the pool or the fitness facility. There is a restaurant on site; however, we did not eat there.

Naturally, we will be back to Wildwood/Wildwood Crest. For those who are budget conscious, it may be a better deal for you to check out hotel suites that are across the road since oceanfront properties are still not what you might think as 'oceanfront' since the water is moving away.

We stayed in an oceanfront suite that had two queen beds and a sofa bed. It had an eat-in kitchen/living area, two televisions and a bath. We had a great view of the ocean and we could see the beginning of the boardwalk from our private balcony. Our weekend package included free breakfast each morning. This is our favorite hotel when we visit Wildwood. The rooms are always clean and the staff has always been nice and very accomodating. The pool is heated, so you can still swim when the temperature is a little cooler outside. There is also parking available under the motel. We had an enjoyable stay.

We've been staying at the Adventurer every summer for about 35 years. The rooms are always clean and tidy. We love having a kitchenette where we can have some meals in. The location is perfect. It's located at the end of the Boardwalk, on the border of Wildwood & Wildwood Crest. The beach is right in front of the Inn. We recommend the Inn to all of our friends. You can't go wrong staying there.

Let me begin by saying, this is no Marriott, yet to be fair, there are no 4-5 star hotels in this area. We typically only stay in a better hotels, therefore I researched almost every hotel in the area to meet me needs for my family. It was our first time down to Wildwood, and we took a chance on staying here. I'm glad we did. The service was incredible, the hotel location couldn't be better, and the pool was nice and clean. I was aware of the comments regarding the elevators and although they recently renovated the elevators last year, there simply aren't enough of them. Plan to be late on the check-out day because of that! The only other small issue we had was the room air conditioning. It was one wall unit, so you need to keep the partioning of the room open. The bathroom was a little bit small (although most are this size in beach hotels). Overall, it was a very nice hotel and I'm am already in the process of reserving a room for next summer at the same hotel. Adventurer...please keep up the good work!

Even though we showed up during the NJ Firefighter's Convention without a reservation they were very accomadating. We got to see the room before we booked it as well which was nice. Very friendly front desk personnel. The room was clean and spacious. The location can't be beat, right at the end of the Boardwalk so you can walk there but not be disturbed by any noise. The ocean is right across the road, perfect! I would definately look into staying here again next time I go.

This is our second year staying at The Adventurer for our Wildwood vacation. As other reviewers have noted, the hotel has an excellent location right on the beach at the south end of the boardwalk. There is also a bike rental shop directly across the street that we took advantage of for a boardwalk bike ride.

This year we stayed in one of the 3 bedroom, 2 bath family suites on the top floor. The suite is the perfect set-up for families with children – more like an apartment or condo than a hotel room - with lots of space for the kids to run around. The kitchenette comes complete with an almost-full size fridge, 2 burner stove, microwave, toaster and coffeemaker, plus plates, cups, utensils, etc. The dinette table in our room seated 4 comfortably and 6 if we got cozy (the room has 6 dinette chairs). And the master bedroom is huge! It has two double beds and lots of room for a pack and play. The other two bedrooms both have king size beds, with one of them also having enough space for a pack and play. One of the best features of the room is the private balcony running the full length of the suite, with openings off the master bedroom, the living area and one of the bedrooms. Ours had a chaise and two patio chairs – and with the partial view of the beach, it was a great place to sit with your coffee in the mornings! The only thing I did not like about our suite was that both of the bathrooms were off bedrooms, with neither of them accessible from the main living area. I was told, however, that there are other family suites with layouts that do have a bathroom off the living area. All together, we had 5 adults and 4 children comfortably staying in our suite, with plenty of space for everyone.

The only downsides of the hotel are the small and very slow elevators (it was faster to walk down the 7 flights of stairs than to wait for the elevator) and the fact that the hotel’s conference rooms are located on the top floor across from the family suites. While we were there, one of the tour groups had a pretty loud party in the conference room that was still going strong at 10 pm. While it was entertaining to see 60-70 year old women rocking out to “Get Down Tonight”, it did make it hard for the kids to go to sleep. However, when we notified the front desk they very quickly sent someone up to close the doors and turn the music down. I can’t imagine that happens very often, but it might be worth asking about before booking a suite, or asking for one at the other end of the floor.

Overall, we loved our stay at The Adventurer and will definitely be back next year.

Over the past 30 years, we've tried other hotels - just for something different - but were never as pleased as we are staying here. Rooms are clean and well kept - as is the entire hotel. Only negative is the slow elevators.

Room Tip: Higher floors have better views of the ocean and are quieter.
