“6th year in the beautiful Coliseum resort.”
Reviewed May 7, 2014

I do not understand why so much negative reviews been appearing. The hotel been renovated. Great staff very helpful front desk lady. I been there every summer and i never been disappointed the location is amazing u wake up to the beautiful view of the ocean. Sure the bathrooms aren't the biggest but they do fine for 1 person. The beds are so comfortable they knock you. The beach is the best beach in NJ. Nice little fridge and stove . They do have a BBQ area but most of the time there is a giant obnoxious family there. This little hotel is amazing but the people ruin it having there kids yell scream run around. I hate the parking very small and tight place and parents letting there kids play next to cars isn't good and hope the management will start taking care of that since kids hit cars with balls. The pool should be allot bigger this is a pool where 5 people get in its crowded. The laundry room needs to be renovated it got worse each year six years ago they had few arcade games and good working washer and dryer now the couch in the laundry is bad don't sit on it or you will be covered in dust. Despite few problems this is the only hotel i can relax sit in front of my room and watch the ocean i already booked 2 weeks for summer of 2014. If your expecting a giant hotel with a giant flat screen and room service and a giant pool then this is not a hotel for you this is a simple nice small resort. To new people coming this summer try to avoid 1 floor all you see is the cars and just people walking next to your room 24/7.

We liked that it was right on the beach and in a less crowded area. We were very disappointed upon arrival to our room. Our bedroom had a door which led to the hotel room next door. The door was not well insulated at all, and had almost an inch high opening on the bottom. Sound easily traveled through.. and we could hear every single thing our neighbors did. This was not disclosed to us before booking the room. The first night, we heard music playing from someone's cell phone and people talking. The next day, a new family was there and their children kept banging on the door trying to open it. Really impossible to relax and very little privacy. It felt like we were sharing a room with strangers. Also, the bathroom opens up to the kitchen and had a sliding door that wouldn't stay shut. Staff was nice but we will not be going back.. would rather stay somewhere with more privacy.

Room Tip: Make sure your room is not attached to another room with inner door...

Old, run down rooms with very little space. And they charge extra if you want to pay with a credit card!!! Parking isn't great. Bathroom (tiny) is right off tiny kitchen Thin towels. Yucky place, overall!! Overpriced for what you get!! They need to renovate immediately! Old fiberglass bedspreads....ugh!

Room Tip: Go someplace else. Even if the someplace else isn't better, at least the price should be less f...

We stayed on the street level with the parking lot out our front door. Parking is EXTREMELY tight! Had to climb out the back of the van to get out. NO side room to open doors! Bathrooms very small. Not really clean and located right in the front of the room by the kitchen. Didn't like the layout. Not going back!

At some time, this hotel was ranked with 4 out of 5 on TripAdvisor, but WOW! were we ever disappointed!!! I can't believe we paid what we did for this place!!! The good -- very friendly, nice front-desk staff; soft towels; comfortable bed. The bad -- tiny room and bathroom with very limited seating area with plastic chairs. 4 people in the room are like sardines. Rust areas in bathroom ceiling and shower curtain rod. Mildew in shower. Shower curtain too narrow and didn't close the shower entrance so either the sink or the floor got drenched depending on to which side we decided to pull the curtain. Dead bugs in ceiling light covers. No, it's definitely not a spa or a resort.

I just spent the Labor Day weekend at the Coliseum. The room was clean, everything worked, staff were all friendly and the view from the third floor was impressive. Judging by the number of repeat customers I met most people who stay there are very happy with the accommodation. I didn't hear one word of criticism from the folks I met during my stay and the place was full - guess the critics are just picky?

Two friends also came to join me and they were equally impressed.

One great thing is that the area is quiet at night, with no loud music or partying to disturb your sleep.

There's sensibly priced food on site plus a great bar/restaurant and a good deli about 5 mins walk away (both straight up Miami Ave, the bar/restuarant is across the road at the end and the deli is three blocks right) so you don't have to go far. There's also a very useful area with two huge gas BBQs residents can use.

I have no problems recommending the place and would go back if I ever found myself that way again.

Room Tip: Try for second or third floor because the first floor is right on the parking lot.

This place is expensive and "resort" is a misleading information. Our room was dirty. Rust on kitchen appliances and old TV. No Internet Access!!! Bathroom was really small. It's a waste of time and money. This was such a bad experience for all of us. Don't trust pictures and information what you can find on their their website. Next year we will plan our vacation better.

Room Tip: Always read reviews before you book.
