Reviewing my trip from August 2012. Cara Mara is located in Wildwood Crest, directly across from Centennial Park. Overall it was average…not bad and not the best. Maid service is not what it used to be when I was younger. I could remember maids coming into your room and vacuuming, washing the sink & bathtub…basically cleaning the entire room. Now-a-days they typically only take out the trash, make up the bed and provide new towels. The person working the front desk was nice, friendly and helped us check-in early. Parking was always available. There’s a play area for kids on the first floor with a few older toys and a shuffle board court. There are two grills also available for guests to use. The pool and the surrounding pool-area was clean and well kept. Location is nice because there is no hotel between the Cara Mara and the beach/ocean. If you stay during the fireworks show or a concert at the park you have a front row seat. The Port Royal hotel, which has a nice restaurant and take-out window, is in walking distance and makes a great place to grab take-out breakfast and lunch. That’s about it. I would come back and stay even though it’s not my first choice.

We just returned from a great stay at Cara Mara in Wildwood Crest! We booked this hotel last minute (2 days before arrival) so I wasn't sure what we would be getting ourselves into. The Cara Mara is located a block from the ocean and about 5-6 blocks from the start of the boardwalk. We arrived late and they were very accommodating making sure everything was ok for us upon arrival. The room was pretty nice and very clean. It was a simple sitting area with a small kitchenette and a small bedroom with two beds, perfect for a weekend away. We took full advantage of the pool everyday which also was kept very clean.
If there are any complaints or anything to watch out for when booking this hotel there is a stage area across the street and on Saturday nights hosts bands, if you go to bed early the concerts are loud and you can hear it from the room but we loved it and were able to sit on the porch and listen to the music!
This was a great last minute find and I know we will be returning in the future!

We just had a great long weekend Fri-Mon 6/22-6/25/2012.. at Cara Mara. The place is in a great location away from the crowd and close to the beach. Our room was clean and a ok - just ok because choices were limited at the time of booking. I would have a chance to book to a better room on the 2nd 0r 3rd floors with a better view but my mom could not climb the stairs. The staff were so friendly, honest, hardworking, especially our thanks to Alex. My son left his cell phone and Alex got out of his way and sent it to us and got the phone in no time. Great job Alex! We will be back! ****

my wife and i went to the cara mara and had a room on the third floor with a great view of the ocean and beach, it was a very hot week, but the room had a ceiling fan and a great air conditioner. it looked as if the room had been all redone even with a new dinette. we could even watch the concert at the park from our balcony, we cannot wait to go back!

Room Tip: go for the third floor, the view is awesome!

If you're looking for a hotel with all the guidos in jersey, then stay here. It's a great location, but horrible parking. And if you have a truck like my husband does then forget it. People were obnoxious, drunk and partying all night. Rooms didn't have tvs in them, only the "kitchen" attached did. Wouldn't recommend.

We haven't been to the Cara Mara for several years and decided to book an early summer stay this weekend. Everything exceeded our expectations. Our oceanview two-room unit with a kitchenette and flat-screen TV was clean, roomy and bright, and boasted a terrific view of the new fitness park, beach and ocean. (FYI: We decided to return to the Cara Mara because its prices were much more reasonable than surrounding motels.)
The pool was crystal clear and provided a nice relaxing respite after riding bikes on the boardwalk in the morning. The Cara Mara's new staff was courteous and attended to our needs -- even when we requested more towels for three teen-aged girls getting ready for senior weekend.
And there are plenty of things to do as we look ahead to planning for another mid-summer trip to the Cara Mara -- an expanded children's playground, a new barbecue area, shuffleboard court, table tennis and a gameroom. And besides the spectacular ocean views from the Cara Mara, we learned that the new Centennial Park directly across the street hosts family-friendly concerts and other activities throughout the summer. We can't wait to come back.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet place that's family friendly yet is steps from the beach, the Cara Mara is a...

My son and I stayed at the Cara Mara a year ago. I knew from that visit to not rent rooms ending in 11 or 12 (which don't have a beach/ocean view). I also knew that the online information for a type "F" room layout is accurate only for third floor (for lower floors, kitchenette and bathroom are in the back of the unit with the bedroom, not up front with the living room/dining room). This visit was very pleasant. Good location, a short walk to the beach/bike path, and there is a nice city playground a few blocks to the south. The pool temperature was reasonably warm. The playground next to the pool is a nice feature for families with small children. The unit had windows with screens that could be opened both in front and in back, allowing good cross-ventilation while keeping insects out. The Cara Mara had far more cable TV channels than an upscale expensive nearby place that we had stayed in the previous weekend. I brought a cooking pot with lid, which was good - unit we were in (with kitchenette) was a bit short on quality cookware. Wireless Internet access worked fine with a Linux laptop (web authentication). The place is advertised for occupancy by up to six people, but a realistic comfortable capacity is four. There were a few maintenance issues with the unit which I reported to the onsite management; hopefully they will be addressed promptly.

Room Tip: Third floor (best view), room number not ending in 11 or 12.
